Stopped by to start out our day of touring plantations. Although this is not a plantation, the building has a lot of history. The structure itself has been refurbished to the original as much as possible. We were the only couple there and "Herb" offered to give us a tour. He was great, taking questions, joking, and constanly feeding us historical info about Governor "White", his family , the house and the area. Currently he is the custodian, grounds keeper, and tour guide. Herb has been there several years and was involved with the refurbishing of the house. He told us that he also does the tour in French. Note: some of the trees on the property are over 350 years old. This was a great addition to our plantation tours. It is free to the public, ( there is a donation box).

They offer a felling of what it was like to go to school back then. What an education. They sure do have pride in this historical site.

State website says open tu-sun 9:30 to 4:30. We came by at 1:45 on Saturday and everything was locked up. Disappointed I gave an average rating because I had to enter something and a poor rating would not be accurate for something I have not seen.

Regular guide not there the day we went, but the person who sub'ed did a good job explaining things.
