Laurel Valley Village is the largest surviving 19th and 20th century sugar plantation complex left in the United States. You can see nearly 60 original structures. You can't get into them as they were left as they are and it would be too dangerous to enter, but you can stop at the side of the road and take it all in.The general store contains many tools and farm implements used in the cultivation of sugar cane as well as locally made arts and crafts and is worth a visit. The gentleman in the store was an absolute delight to talk to and we even gathered pecan nuts outside the shop, which was fun!

We learned a lot during our visit and driving through the village. The man at the general store really knew his stuff and we enjoyed talking with him. Great selection of local crafts.

Locals sent us there. The remaining slave cottages are humbling. Watching the cane be harvested was interesting. The gentleman who runs the general store/museum was a treat to chat with. We highly recommend that you take time to watch the video about sugar cane and the one about Laurel Valley Village. The photography in the Laurel Valley program is unbelievably good! Take time to browse through the wonderful antiques and old "junk" throughout the store and environs.

This is the largest surviving 19th and 20th century sugar cane plantation. The museum and shop are quaint and free to see. Around the building are old tools and vehicles. When we visited a few chickens, cats, a duck and a turkey wandered around the premises, near the goat and piggy pen you can get some corn and feed the animals. The 60 remaining old slave cabins are a 5 minute drive away from this building. You can see them from the main street and gave us beautiful photo's and a perfect idea of how it was in the former days. The owner in the shop and museum can tell you all about sugar cane and the way it was. Very interesting
