This is a home of a super rich family of their time. They were in the newspaper business. They supported the arts and crafts movement. They loved hand made products with beauty and a purpose. There is lots of hand carved wood. The house tour is of the first floor only. The grounds are nice. They were generous and they valued education. They funded the Cranbrook schools.

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and we had a wonderful time exploring the gardens. There are nooks and paths to explore all along the way. The house was not open for tours on Saturday, but we had fun just looking at the outside and imagining what it would be like to live there. We walked around for about 2 hours.

We love touring houses. We love teas. This was fun. The tour of the house only covers the first floor. We would have loved to see more, but the other floors are used as offices. The house and story that goes along with it are interesting. It is a family home with family stories. There are a lot of unique pieces. A lot of old and original art pieces are in this house. It was built in 1918 in the Arts and Craft style. The gardens were beautiful. The gift shop is small, but the prices are great. The tea was very nice. There was a lot of food and they even brought us seconds! You can't leave hungry. We really enjoyed our afternoon at the Cranbrook House!

This was the first of three grand homes I visited on my trip to Detroit, the other two being Meadow Brook Hall and The Edsel & Eleanor Ford House.Cranbrook House & Gardens is a lavish English Arts & Crafts style home from 1908, designed by renowned Detroit architect Albert Kahn for George and Ellen Booth. At the time I was there, I was only able to tour the grounds and exterior of this estate, which was self guided. The guided tour of the interior didn't begin until June.After parking, you walk a short ways through some woods, where you then come upon this amazing house and it's beautifully designed grounds. I was reminded of an enchanted forest or something out of "Lord of the Rings". The grounds are quite extensive and there are many things to see including sculptures, fountains, gardens, a reflecting pool, Greek Theater and much more.The exterior of the house is quite extraordinary as well. There are many decorative Arts & Crafts details to be seen. While I would've loved to have seen the interior, the $5 to walk the grounds was well worth it.The entrance to Cranbrook House is off of Lone Pine Rd. There's a gate house where you purchase your tickets and receive a map of the grounds. There's also toilets here.TIP: Cranbrook House & Gardens is a part of the Cranbrook Educational Community that the Booth's created and is just one of many things you can see there. Other attractions include the Cranbrook Art and Science museums, the amazing Saarinen House and the beautiful grounds around the art museum, with numerous works by Swedish Sculptor Carl Milles.There's so much to see, you could spend an entire day here.

History, art, world class sculptures & architecture, a science museum spread out on beautiful estate grounds.Nestled in a New England landscape on the elegant Cranbrook Road is a complex that also includes three private preparatory schools.

I attended a tour with a group of the grounds, house and tea. Lunch was presented simple and satisfying. Service could have been a bit better for drinks. Beautiful grounds but be prepared to walk on uneven Terrain and up and down stairs without railings if mobility impaired. Can be very difficult even if you have walking aids.

I usually try to go to Cranbrook House every summer. The gardens are beautiful and are a wonderful place for a picnic. The flowers are just lovely and I also like to see all the fountains. Be prepared to spend at least a couple of hours wondering around as there's lots of nooks and crannies to explore. I believe you have to pay if you want to go into the house, but we just usually walk the grounds.

One of my favorite places to go when I have an afternoon to enjoy nature ! Beautiful architecture and grounds.

An amazing walk back into history of the Booth family, Cranbrook Schools and the building of Detroit. Great history lessons and beautiful architecture and the gardens alone are worth the visit.

Several of us went to view the current exhibit. It was about bats,if I'm remembering correctly. Parking is easy and the walk thru the museum is easy. Very enjoyable afternoon. Whatever they will have on exhibit is worth while making the trip

Cranbrook House affords the visitor a look into the early days of this very interesting institution. The architecture, the furnishings and the stories are all worth seeing and hearing.

An annual favorite for many people was again a fabulous site for ideas for your own holiday table or to see other people's lovely collections and possessions and their creativity!!!

Excellent docent on our tour explained so many interesting details about the history of the property. Well maintained through the years, a stunning example of the grand era of SE Michigan was enjoyed!

Cranbrook use to be a great thing. It is no longer. Nearly a hundred years ago the Booth's collected some great art, this is not that collection.

Grew up nearby and have been coming here since I was a kid. Always seems like I discover a new trail every time. Great place to walk with kids and have a picnic. My daughter thinks its called the Secret Garden.
