Thanks city of Peabody for keeping up with this bike trail. I love the park and trail for me and my kids. Very well kept ! Pets Are also welcome.

A very nice rail trail. The path is paved and not too busy. It crosses some very scenic wetlands. My only complaints are that the western section is too short, the on road portion across rt.1 and 95 is not very pleasant and where the trail resumes East of the hwy crossing is not marked at all.

This is a great path to take a walk with a dog or bring children on bikes as it's paved and pretty flat. It's nice to have this option of getting some outside activities.I believe it's about 4+ miles 1 way, so you could do the whole thing or just parts of it.There are a few street crossings you have to do so be aware of that.

The Greenway trail is a level paved, scenic trail encompassing many miles. Can be enjoyed by people of all ages and for various activities. People are dog walking, strolling, jogging, bike riding and rollerblading. The only disappointment is they were unable to cross route one, so to continue through you have to migrate the road.

Great for family fun...easy riding...few slopes...mostly flat....where it crosses main roads there are caution lights..

It's pristine, beautiful and minimally constructed so it doesn't distract from nature. Most dog owners take car of their pets' trash and the grounds are well-maintained. The only pitfall is the many areas of seclusion available, which does entice the local teens during evening and night hours. We have caught several groups a few times leaving the woods while still smoking, the unmistakable scent of pot filling the air.

Easy walking on a flat surface. You feel that you are in the woods, but a main road is very near by in case of emergency. A few benches to rest, could use more.

Independence greenway is a pleasant path. You can get on or off at various areas where parking is available. stay on path, and in daytime only if walking dogs just watch for tics in summer

Just took the dog for a walk down the Independence Greenway Rail Trail today--it's really convenient and takes you through a more peaceful part of town. I'm glad the city of Peabody invested so much into this trail. Definitely surprised there weren't more families out today riding their bikes! I just hope that the city extends the trail to cross under I-95/rt-1 so users don't have to get onto Lowell Rd. anymore.

I love the fact that Peabody has opened a bike route that is level, uncroweded and goes through some beautiful terrain. The only problem is the choppiness of the route. At one point you have to cross a major highway and at another take a turn down a steep hill. So if you have children you can choose to do just the first part or the second part and not make the crossover. This being said, it is a beautiful trail and it's so nice to have one locally.

This is one of the few places on the north shore that you can ride or walk on a paved pedestrian path. It is a perfect place to ride with youngsters who are just learning to ride because it is so flat and smooth. There are other rail trails which are longer up through Danvers and Topsfield but they aren't paved like this one. Would love to see other communities make this same level of commitment to providing recreational access.

I am a fan of the Independence Greenway Bike Route that was put in a couple of years back in Peabody. I, like many, wondered about the expense of the project, and when I decided to buy a bike for some personal conditioning and looked for a place to ride, I decided to give it a try.Almost all of the route is closed to motor vehicles. The paths are paved and have plenty of room for two-way traffic. Technically, the path begins where Russell Street enters Middleton, goes along a creek and behind some stores, to LT Ross park. At that point, you would need to take your life in your hands and bike to the next trailhead near Peabody High School, where you can put in another mile or so before finishing out at the North Shore Mall near Lahey Clinic. Many sections of this trail are just beautiful, particularly in spring, summer, and fall, and there's a fair amount of wildlife to view while you are peddling down the path. Since the trail is new and done in asphalt, you won't need your mountain bike -- even the fussiest of riders will enjoy the surfaces. There are busy times and times where you are the only one on the trail. Either way, some precautions:- It is good manners to say "Passing on Your Left" when passing another bike, runner or walker- Be very, very careful when you have a turn ahead and cannot see fully around the bend, as I have encountered unleashed dogs that have tried to get at my front wheel and have several times come close to making the day of the poor orthopedic surgeon who would have gotten me- Along with "permissive dog owners," you will also but rarely encounter the "permissive parent" that decides the entire width of the trail is theirs and don't pay attention to visibility on the path. There is one in particular who likes to have her little ones spread out across the path while bikes traveling at 15+ miles per hour come to a smoking, screeching halt. Doesn't happen often, but three times in three months is enough for me.So aside being careful when approaching bends, this is a fun, smooth scenic ride that has been very enjoyable for me and my family, and I hope it is for you and yours, too!
