nagley's store

I don't understand why this silly little store is an attraction in Talkeetna! It is absolutely nothing- a little store with very few products and high prices. Not necessary to even to even mention the place. If someone wants to come here and cook, bring your own food!

How many places can you go and say that you pet the mayor? Well my mother in law and I can say that we went to talkeetna and pet the cutest fuzzy little mayor that there ever was. He resides in this store and the employees were super nice. We unfortunately walked in when a van load of tourists from Asia came through so it was PACKED but we waited them out.

This is the only town I know of that the elected mayor is a cat which happens to hold court in this funky store. If you need some minimal provisions like a six pack of beer, you'll find your way here.

Nagley's is a Talkeetna Institution! If you're in town and need some essentials for the camp site or just a snack (THE ICE CREAM IS UNREAL), then Nagley's has you covered! Their staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a liquor store with some great beers, wines and liquors (through a separate entrance). MUCH more convenient then driving down to "THE Y" to grab groceries!

Nagley's Store is a cute neighborhood grocery store that looks as though there is a local bar/restaurant in the back. There isn't much to see here, unless you need to pick up some provisions and catch a glimpse of Mayor Stubbs. We had to pop in several times before he showed up! He's pretty old at 18 years, so try to shake his paw before he relinquishes his title. I also spoke with a worker who noted that a new owner will take over the store in January. They ran out of OJ when we were there since they were waiting for the new owner to start.

This store has great friendly local service, and sells everything you could want, as long as you only want one of it. We loved it, and visited several times during our short stay in Talkeetna. Worth a wander around viewing the amazing assortment of goods on the crowded shelves, and certainly worth a chat to the storekeeper. Feels like individual service in a store used to feel.

wow. i's a terrific place. i wonder if they would mind me saying that if they don't have it, you probably don't need it. it's a great place and I don't think they would actually say that. it was my expierience that they would hunt it down themselves or give perfect directions where you could get it. i've been in many times. i've stayed at the princess lodge and still gone out to this store. i really enjoy the bluegrass festival. it's my kind of crowd. these are some great people here. started going in the early eightys. it remains a highlite of my life. it's just a store to them and a meeting place for others. for me it's a little slice of heaven. good travels.

like stepping back in time. Lots of climbers gettting ready for Denali stop in here for last minute additions. We just browsed around and had fun.

It's a big general store jammed in a smaller building. So it's packed but cosey at the same time. They sell almost everything but prices are high.Nice, friendly people.Unfortunately we missed Mr Stubbs ;)

I loved everything about this little place very last frontier atmosphere, they had what we needed, very nostalgic of a small town store.

If you visit Talkeetna stop at Nagley's. This small town general store has a bit of everything. There are way more items in this store than your eyes can possibly see in one visit. It is the only place in town to shop so it is a bit expensive but if you need it, Nagley's probably has it! I really enjoyed visiting Nagley's and buying some odds and ends of food for lunch and snack!

My husband watched a lot of Alaska reality television before our trip in August. He just had to visit the Nagley's Store. It was very interesting. I was amazed at how expensive the food is, but I guess that was typical in Alaska. The store was rusticand unique. I guess the thing we liked most was the fact that some of the stars of one of the reality shows were actually in the store while we were there. My husband recognized them instantly and they consented to have their picture made with him. He was thrilled.

I woke early to find a place to make my favorite morning drink, a tan mocha, and hit a gold mine at Nagley's. Very nice store with plenty of personality. Grab anything you forgot for your trip here at a reasonable price. And I you are really lucky you will meet the mayor of Talkeetna, Stubbs the cat!
