Thank You Peak Island a Tours for the last minute treat ( it was mid October). We enjoyed the informative narrative by a native islander whose humor depicted the culture and community of the island. We had a beautiful day, saw beaches, breakers, the military reservation, several summer communities, civil war regiments and an island spirit that doesn't disappoint.
As first time visitors to Peaks Island, we decided to take a golf cart tour to get a sense of what it's like. Our guide, Dan, was very informative and friendly, and we were able to get a real sense not only of the physical beauty of the island, but also of its history and what seems to be a very friendly island community.
Although the tour was very informative and the island extremely beautiful with panoramic vistas, if you are the two people sitting in the back facing outward, be sure to hold on for dear life! I'm sure that the tour guide did not intentionally mean to take us for "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" but a week later my arm still hurts for clinging to the small side rail which kept me from flying off the back. My husband fared just as badly. Those back seats should have some sort of seat belt to keep you bolted down especially in the hilly terrain. I'm sure if we weren't fearing for our lives we would have enjoyed it more. Other than that, the guide was very pleasant and did a great job with the island's history.
Dear Sir/Madam:. August 12, 2014This note responds to your “no handicapped allowed” review letter posted on August 11, 2014. Please be advised that Peaks Island Tours has provided tours to people of all ages with physical and/or mental disabilities for the ten years we have been in business. You inquired about bringing your clients with disabilities on the next day scheduled tour. You were NOT told that handicapped people are not allowed on the tour. It was explained to you that the tours are given on six and eight passenger golf carts that do not have storage space for wheelchairs or walkers. Tour clients are picked up at the Peaks Island wharf which is nearly 2 miles from our office. Given enough lead time, we can find a business in the wharf area where wheelchairs, baby strollers and the like may be stored safely while their owners take the tour. It would seem that you misunderstood me that day, or I did not adequately explain what we do to accommodate people with disabilities. We are sorry for the confusion. Everyone, including people with disabilities, is welcome on our tours. Kimberly MacIsaacPresidentPeaks Island ToursPeaks Island, Maine, 04108
I traveled to Maine last weekend with my parents and we decided to do a golf cart tour at Peaks Island. It was a great way to see the whole perimeter of the island and learn about a new place with lots of history! Our tour guide John was a long-time resident of PI, and he had so much interesting information and fun stories to share. It was a very relaxing tour and a great way to spend our day on the island...would definitely recommend!
This past weekend we took a journey to Peeks Island and took The Peeks Island Tour. It consistent of a 75 minute golf cart tour around Peeks Island. Our guide was Jon who is a long time resident of the Island who was very informative of the history and island life.We found it interesting and informative. We would recommend it to any one who wants an over view of the island.
We live in Portland Maine and have been to Peaks Island many times, but we have never learned more about the Island until we took the Peaks Island Tour. Our guide made the tour interesting with a genuine love for the island and the people who make Peaks Island a part-time or full-time home. The tour takes you to a variety of locations with a post-card view around every corner.
Did this tour today. Dan was our tour guide. Fun golf cart tour takes you around the Island. Dan is very knowledgable about the history of the island. A great way to see all of the island and learn it's history. Would highly recommend.
What a great spot just to walk around. A short boat ride from Portland Maine. This Island has a lot of charm. Hooked up with Peaks Island Tour Company and had a guide name John who did an excellent job on our tour of the Island by golf cart. He lives on the Island and showed us everything we wanted to see. If you are making a trip to the Island ask for John. They are up the short hill once you get off the boat.
Peaks Island Tours has been in business for years and tells the history of Peaks and residents from the "Indian wars" to the present time. Very professional and and they meet most ferries. Great also for long-term residents who don't know about the island.
Sept.14, 2013Born and brought up in Maine I had always heard Peaks Island was a great place to visit.I took Casco Bay Lines to get there and a gentleman named John was at the arrival spot. He gives tours by a golf cart, so I decided to go. It lasted approx. 90 minutes and it was awesome! He was so kind and very informative. I the enjoyed the tour and island more than words can say! I would highly recommend seeing the island with him, and have passed this info to many people since my trip!
Our tour guide John met us right off the ferry, and we had a wonderful afternoon. We had 4 8-year old girls with us for a birthday party adventure, and they loved it. John is a former teacher so was able to adjust what he did to make it perfect for us. The island is rich in history, and we all especially loved learning about the military history of the island and seeing the Civil War museum. Maybe not a typical bday party, but the kids loved it and adults did as well. We would go again for sure.
My husband and I took the golf cart tour on a recent Wednesday morning during our visit to Peak's Island. Our guide was a tall, thin, older gentleman and I am sorry I don't recall his name. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Peak's Island which was fascinating. However, the entire trip seemed rushed and he seemed preoccupied. Questions and comments seemed to take him off script. We were hurried through the museum and the end of the tour came five minutes before the scheduled end- hmmm... maybe there were a few minutes to slow down a bit. That said, I'm glad we took the tour because we never could have walked everywhere we went or learned what we learned. We also took our guide's suggestion for lunch- The Cockeyed Gull- delicious and great view from the outdoor deck. All in all a very worthwhile tour.
Last Saturday the family enjoyed a wonderful tour of Peaks Island with owner Steve MacIsaac! Beautiful weather, personal stories and a good dose of historical island trivia. Could not have asked for anything better:)
Fantastic tour of the island. You can really get to see a lot of the island in under 2 hours. Our tour guide John was very knowledgeable and did a great job giving us the history of the island. Highly recommend the tour!
