In May 2013 I had the pleasure of visiting Allentown for the first time since 1958 when we moved out of our apartment on Edwards Street and relocated to Los Angeles. I have to tell you I was very impressed by the old neighborhood and all of the kind and wonderful people I met. I was thrilled to find the place where I use to live still standing. Not only was it still there but the first floor is the now the vibrant Founding Fathers Pub. I dropped by for a drink and the owner Michael made me feel at Home. The Founding Fathers Pub is now my favorite American Pub and Made my homecoming even more special. Though I love living in Los Angeles I can actually see myself living in my old neighborhood in Allentown.

So much to see even during the evening when stores are closed. The residential blocks are beautiful with magnificently maintained home and yards. We visited on a Friday evening before many homes were part of their annual garden tour. So they were pristine and welcoming. Loved the area and it's easy to imagine and fantasize about living in such a great area of an historic city like Buffalo.

Nightlife at its finest! I am NOT into the club scene in the slightest so I was delighted to find Allen street. Bars packed with live music, great drink specials and all the 'hip' kids in the Buffalo area. It goes all night too if you'd like.. bars in Buffalo are open till 4am! There is also an amazing food joint on the corner of Elmwood and Allen for those late night cravings.(it's open until 5am!) Go in the daytime too check out Rust belt books and some of the nicer restaurants in the area!

I used to live in this area of town, and while there might not be as many little stores to pop into like there are on Elmwood (although more and more are moving in), I prefer Allentown to walk around and look at the Architecture. My favorite buildings in the city are in this district, and it feels more unique to me than Elmwood. Elmwood you see lots of Victorians, which are beautiful, but Allentown has a nice mix. There are also some good places to stop in for a coffee/beer (Founding Fathers is still my favorite bar in the world), and lots of character!

We started walking from the intersection of Allen and Elmwood, up and down Elmwood, and then west a bit on Allen-liquor stores, creepy-looking bars. There's not many shops, and in no way can this area compare for shopping to Elmwood Village between Summer and Delevan.Maybe there's a better part of Allentown. We didn't find it.

It's always interesting to walk around in Allentown. Interesting shops, interesting people, and interesting restaurants. Of course one should stop in at Gabriel's Gate for a bite or drink. We also enjoy the art festival held in Allentown every June.

Took a stroll around on a June weekday but were disappointed that so many of the stores and galleries were closed. No hours posted. A local advised us that weekdays were random. Too bad. Some of us could have spent money if a shop or two had been open. The restaurants were, and they all looked interesting. At least were able to enjoy the architecture along the street.

If you like walking and being among people, this is the place to be. People walking around all hours of the day and night, many small shops and eateries. Fun time

I learned interesting things about Allentown. My favorite part was the horror story of that red house. I recommend this tour to others because the tour guide Joel dombrowski was very funny and friendly with everybody

Great food, drinking, art, music, and culture... Or, in other words, this is the city's gayborhood :p. check out Gabriel's gate for the best wings in town, funky monkey and other nearby bars for fun but relaxed lgbt nightlife, the Theodore Roosevelt inaugural site for your dose of history, and Nietzsche's for live music every night. A few shops can be found in the neighborhood as well. Be sure to check out the awesome street art found on he buildings on Allen st and the beautiful homes on park and Irving

I loved staying in Allentown while visiting my boyfriend. It was walking distance from everything. Nice houses and convenient.

Popular area for grabbing a bite and some drinks in the evening when we are in town. Very close to downtown hotels.

Don't forget to check out Gabriel's Gate for awesome buffalo wings. Crispy and delicious! Bar-b-que ribs were large and tender.

We stay at the Holiday Inn at Delaware and North once a year to visit downtown Buffalo and always stroll in Allentown. A great mixture of retail, pubs, restaurants and street life. Pride in the neighbourhood is obvious - street art, flower pots, store front attractions. An eclectic area.
