A one hour complimentary tour by A.A.M. Docent Richard gave a perfect overview of the exhibit. Being winter, aircraft are exhibited in the hangar. Most are airworthy and offer passenger flights on Memorial and Labor Day. The absence of "No touch" sign make it an ideal visit for kids sitting in cockpits and flying a simulator. Memorable is going thru a mock parachute jump from the Douglas C47 with Richard.

While suffering from severe cabin fever I decided to take my 4 year old to the museum. This place is not the biggest or fanciest museum ever but, it's really cool and interactive. Not too many places let you touch almost everything! There are several exhibits/ planes that you can board and explore. I was told by one of the extremely informative guides that all the planes (minus two) actually fly on s regular basis. I would highly recommend this place to all ages.

The hangar looks rather deceiving from the outside, but inside, there is a world of aviation history! There is a lot to see here. Visit this place on Memorial Day and/or Veteran's Day for additional offerings. You can reserve rides in antique airplanes as well if you call in early. Parking is very limited at this facility so either come early or come during the week instead. Since this museum is located at Republic Airport, you can also see general aviation airplanes flying during your visit. This is an excellent family destination. After your visit, you can check out local restaurants and do some shopping around the area.If you are flying into Republic Airport to visit this museum, request parking at Sheltair on the northeast side of the airport. It is a short walk from Sheltair to the museum, but you will need to be escorted by someone from Sheltair.

Young or old, both adults and children alike will love the hands on experience the American Airpower Museum has to offer. Visitors has a unique opportunity to experience numerous planes and artifacts developed thanks to long island's rich aircraft heritage. Plan about two hours to take it all in.

Great little hidden away museum for military buffs. Good time to go is when the air show is taking place. Run mostly by dedicated volunteers, it is a treasure in the area.

This museum is in an old hanger from Republic Aviation, which built the Thunderbolt. The array of planes are magnificent and the volunteers are quick to offer you a tour. An excellent showing of local aviation history and manufacturing.

A very nice museum. Due to the air show it was quite crowded, so we intend to go back on a "slower day" and take in the exhibits. This is definitely a stop on any airplane buffs list as well as anyone interested in not only the history of flight but the history of the World Wars.Parking is a bit of a problem on a busy day we had to park pretty far away and walk back, so be prepared for that.

Thanks for taking the time to review our museum. We are very excited and happy to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us. We credit our volunteer docents to helping make it such a unique experience as many are veterans themselves and have amazing stories to tell. Thanks again for visiting and hope to see you back again in the future perhaps for one of our flying events!-AAM Management

I brought my two young daughters to the American Airpower Museum recently after seeing a broadcast about their exhibits featuring the roles of women in WWII. I was pleasantly surprised to see how prominently displayed the exhibits about these extraordinary women were, as well as the quality of these displays. I have travelled to many other aviation museums around the country, including Washington D.C., where the importance of women's history has been greatly obscured or placed as a mere footnote amongst other exhibits. Such is not the case at the American Airpower Museum. Highly recommended!!

We went here Memorial Day Weekend for the air show. It was fantastic! The exhibits were very well done including the special exhibits on Women during the War. We got to see the Corsair, Mustang and other World War II planes. The museum also hosted the United States Air Force precision demonstration team, the Thunderbirds. Many of the owners of private planes based at the airport also participated in the show. The majority of the planes were headed over to the Jones Beach Air Show but you could see them up close at the Airpower Museum including when they took off and landed. The exhibits are in a huge hangar on property that once belonged to Republic Aviation. I had relatives that worked at Republic after their participation in World War II, so this made the visit very memorable.

Took my son to see the planes. The staff is very attentive. We had a private tour and our guide allowed up to literally climb all over vintage planes from WWII. Many were built on the island. This is a great place to take a 7 year old boy!

If you're into warbirds this is more than worth the trip, especially on the weekends when they fly. This isn't about planes on static display. The Corsair, Mustang, Warhawk and more all take to the air. Plus you're standing in a piece of history--the hanger where they actually built P-47 Thunderbolts. Great for kids and adults.
