Since it was winter, you don't have all the events and offerings that you can get at winery in the summer and fall, but they had a nice little shop and were very nice and informative on the wine for the tasting. Although we visited on Sat, I would have liked to stopped in to ther Sunday brunch they offered and to see the firebrick oven lit and operational was a neat experience.
We went as a group of 9 to celebrate my mom's birthday. I had phoned ahead of time and left a message for the owners asking if we would need a reservation for our larger group, to which I never received a return phone call so I assumed we would be fine. When we arrived, we were greeted by an older woman who seemed frazzled that we were such a large group. She seated us at one table like we wanted and went to get the glasses and lists for our tasting. When we asked about ordering food, she again seemed frazzled. We began the wine tasting and she was quite informative about each of the first 4 wines. Before our 4th sample, we received our ordered food by some wonderfully friendly servers who were incredibly accommodating! Many thanks to them!! By the 5th sample, our original server was talking less and her body language made us feel like she was irritated with our group. Before pouring our 8th sample, one of our group members indicated that there was one wine that had been missed. The woman serving us stated that they were not including that wine in the tasting because they had limited availability (we later found out that that specific wine WAS being served for tasting in the other tasting room). When questioned further, the women stated that their wine tasting includes 7-10 wines for the $5. She left us with our 8th sample and did not return for about 15 minutes. When she did return, she brought another wine that was not on the list of samples but that she said she would include in place of the other one. After our last sample, our group chose their favorite wine to purchase and began checking out. Overall, the wine was enjoyed by everyone in our group and the food was delicious!! Even with the less than fantastic service, we would probably return to this winery simply for the wine and food.
They have a beautiful setting, built into a hillside. There is a large swinging bench below a magnificent oak tree that you should sit in for a bit if you can. The tasting room was a bit crowded, but they take you through each of the wines they have available for a rather inexpensive $5 tasting. After which you can enjoy a glass/bottle and a brick oven pizza out on their patio.
The whole atmosphere is festive and fun. We did a tasting of 9 wines on a Friday evening. The person pouring knew the characteristics of each wine. After the tasting we purchase 2 of our favorites and ordered brick oven baked food. The artichoke one is the best, but the pizzas are excellent as well. As we were eating a band set up and began to play. There is lots of outdoor seating and the large fire held back the cool of the evening. If you are within 100 miles of this place you must go. The music is on Friday evenings through the end of October.
We had travelled over from the UK to visit friends in MN. Knowing we enjoyed wine, Morgan Creek was on the list of places to visit. We had the best of times, we tasted 5 wines, if I remember correctly and enjoyed the company of the guy running the show. He was superb, taking the time to talk through the characteristics of each wine, comparing and contrasting to previously tasted wines, while giving us an overview of MN wine production, volumes and methods. We found the surroundings relaxed and very comfortable. Some of our party were new to wine, but I know they felt entirely part of the evening. All in all, somewhere nice to take friends and partners.
We went to New Ulm for the weekend. Decided to check out the local brewery and Morgan Creek. Did not know the owner of the Winery was the brother to the owner of the brewery. Just an interesting side note. So it runs in the family to make a quality beverage for everyone to enjoy!!!!! They had wines made with grapes I have never tasted before, very unique and very fine wine. I have been to winery's in Sonoma Valley, Mendoza, Argentina... tasted beer in Ireland and a Irish whiskey mill. This was just as fun and nice as those places we have seen. Not sure why the one bad review on this site for the Winery???? We enjoyed it, bought 6 bottles of wine!!!
One a short weekend trip to New Ulm, MN. We came across Morgan Creek Winery. And what a nice surprise. The winery owner himself gave us our tasting, which was full of a great variety of wines. After tasting the deliciously fresh and delightful wines he then took us on a very informative tour. Educating us on not only the winery's history but also the grapes developed and now grown in MN. After the tour we snacked on a tasteful pizza and more wine, while sitting on the covered vine covered patio. We also met the co-owner/wife and she shared more in sites to life on a winery.
Husband and I have been getting into MN wines much more and we've heard about Morgan Creek for years. Heard they had great music and great outdoor seating and the pizza was good so we headed out there. Aside from the fact that it wasn't the best drive, we arrived and were not treated very kindly. We ordered the pizza and it came pretty quickly but tasted awful. The bottom was pretty burnt but we had already had a light supper so it didn't matter much to us. We had their wine and it was absolutely horrid. The seating area was just a few chairs around a little firepit and the people that were there seemed like they came all the time and were pretty cliquie which we didn't appreciate as first time guests.A lady came out and chatted with us which was probably the only positive thing of the afternoon. Not going back. If you're planning to visit, talk to mroe than one person and make sure they aren't one of the 20 regulars.
Quaint little winery off the beaten path. We weren't there for a scheduled tour or tasting, but they happily took time to give us a individual tasting. There were multiple varieties that were awesome...and not all the overly sweet wines you often find at many small vineyards. We sat with some cheese and crackers and wine on the patio with an incredible view. An extremely pleasant evening with incredibly gracious service.
A wonderful place to visit anytime. Be sure and check out some of their special events as well - from the Grape stomp to the holiday open house to live music most Sundays & Fridays and Jazz night. Don't miss the Colure and Redtail wines. try a myst mimosa, and the food is first class! Great place for your Christmas shopping. Hang out around the bonfire or go for a walk in the vineyard. Enjoy this local treasure!
I am not much into local wines, bacically I find them too expensive. However the Cheese and meat snacks they had was fantastic. If you love good sausage and local cheeses you have to stop there. And of course if you enjoy local wines they have a really nice selection.
We have been visiting Morgan Creek Vineyards for years, and it is really a treasure in our community. The wines are excellent - there is a reason they win many awards! There is something for everyone, from sweet dessert wines to bold dry reds and everything in between. They focus on Minnesota-grown grapes and varieties and Georg does amazing things with them. The winery is open regular hours from spring through fall, and they also have lots of special events throughout the season. Whether you are there for a "regular" day or a special event or festival, you are sure to enjoy yourself. Winedown for the Weekend on Friday evenings has become a favorite and regular event for us and many friends. You can't help but relax and it makes it feel as if you got an extra day added to your weekend because by the time you leave it feels like the work week was at least a day ago. The atmosphere of the winery transports you to a different place and it's easy to imagine you are in Europe or California wine country, enjoying a world-class glass of wine, great food and excellent service. Georg and Paula and their sons Ben and Adam are usually at the winery and all are happy to answer questions and talk about the winery and the wines. Great place for special events for your business or family, too - weddings, Christmas parties, wine tasting events, birthdays, etc. You should definitely consider spending a few hours at Morgan Creek and, after you do, you will quickly become a regular!
Great hide away underground winery. Fabulous tapas menu of wood fired appetizers. Great variety of Minneosta award winning wines and unbelievable classical and jazz music venue. A favorite place to frequent.
Nice wines. We enjoy visiting, purchasing a bottle to drink at the Winery and enjoying the view of nature. They have an AWESOME Oak tree that is not to be missed.
There is only outdoor seating, but the view is lovely. On Friday and Saturday evenings from late spring to early fall there is live music...soft, easy listening music. The menu is very limited but very good. They have an outdoor open oven that makes individual pizzas(several varieties) and a couple other items. The wine selection is good. There are gaslamps for the chilly evenings; also a firepit.
