The Peanut is a good casual place to meet with friends. It's a standard bar setting with standard bar food, albeit a bit tastier. They have an average selection of beer/liquor, so it should meet everyone's needs. The high point is the outdoor seating available. Fortunately, the patio is on the east side, so you're able to enjoy it even during hot months.

Right down town Lee's Summit. Pretty good size place, with nice bar, and decent food. Families are welcome since they do serve food.
