One of the coolest things we did while visiting Tennessee. Easy hike awesome scenery well worth it. Parking is tight so try to get there early. Bring a towel and be careful when diving off the rocks.

This is a great hike to Midnight Hole, only 1.5 miles to the area and only another .5 miles to mouse creek falls. Both are so worth the drive to get there. It is an unknown gem of a hike. Still people crowd the well known falls inside the SMNP. We've hiked this each year we've been coming to Gatlinburg. A few more people this year but, certainly not crowded. Slowly people are beginning to see that this is a fantastic hike with a beautiful creek. Well worth every step!!

After a day of rafting the guides suggested a quick drive from Tennessee towards the North Carolina border for a hike up to Midnight Hole on the Pigeon River. It is an exhilarating jump into a deep hole of crisp/cool mountain water. Definitely something the kids will remember for a long time. See the photos for more details.

My family wanted to do a waterfall hike and after asking around for suggestions we decided to do one away from all the tourism we drove a out an hour from our cabin in pigeon forge and hike the 2 plus miles up to the falls and once we reached it saw how beautiful it was and the fact that u can not only swim there but even jump off the rock into the falls is amazing spent almost the entire day there great fun bring a snack and spend the day

We drove over after white water rafting. The hike is easy and beautiful. Four teens used to city loved the beauty and enjoyed the hike and jumping in the cold water. A great way to enjoy a day of vacation. Drive over after rafting and it'll be your favorite way to spend the day.

I am a camp host at Big Creek. To get here, take exit 451 off I-40 at Waterville. Take the bridge across the river and turn left at the end of the bridge to follow that road along the river (don't go up the steep gravel road) for several miles, past the power plant and across two one-lane bridges to a stop sign. The park entrance is straight across the road from the stop sign. The day-use parking area is one mile up the one-lane road. Drive slowly. Please don't park in the campground parking lot. That is for the campers. If the day-use lot is full, we recommend that people park in the horse camp day-use area rather than alongside the narrow roads. It's only a few steps farther up the horse trail than the picnic area to the trailhead.Midnight Hole has an eight-foot waterfall between huge boulders. The water at the bottom is about 15 feet deep in a beautiful wide swimming hole. The favorite activity, aside from watching, is jumping off the boulders into the water. Careful though. Wet rocks are slippery. When you visit the Midnight Hole, walk just another half mile up the Big Creek Trail to Mouse Creek Falls. You'll see a horse hitching post on the left and a path to the creek. Mouse Creek Falls is on the far side of Big Creek. It is a cascade rather that a straight vertical drop, about 50 feet high.

We drove over from Gaitlinburg with three kids. The drive took about an hour. Directions were a little difficult to find since we just used a map app and didn't have an actual address. The park is FREE- which makes this a total must do. The hike in was a bit rocky and very muddy - wear sneakers or hiking boots. The water was as beautiful as it was cold!!! So glad we went and even more glad we jumped in!!!

We were staying in pigeon forge for family vacation. Tried to find natural swimming hole and came across midnight hole on the internet. It was an hour drive to get to Big Creek trailhead. Midnight hole is off of this trail. It was a somewhat easy hike with many opportunities to climb down and explore to creek on your way to midnight home. Midnight hole is this beautiful natural swimming are in the middle of the smokies! The was was cold and literally crystal clear. Many swimmers were climbing up large rocks and jumping off. My son (11 years old) said swimming in midnight home was one of the best part of our vacation. We also hiked .5 miles farther to see the Mouse creek falls! Worth the time. It was free too!! We will do it again on our next visit to the smokies!

Midnight hold was a highlight of our trip. Easy 1.5 mild hike to a beautiful creek with a small waterfall. Water is freezing but you get used to it, and well worth the sacrifice of jumping off the huge rocks into the water!! A must see, you won't be disappointed

A good distance from Gatlinburg but well worth the drive and hike. Take a picnic lunch but remember as always use bear precaution when taking food into the woods while hiking in the smokies,,,hey your a guest in their house, don't leave any trash. The hike from the car is a gentle elevation over a mile and half hike. Caution. This is a horse trail so no pets.

Wow- this is an idyllic spot for a swim... if you can take the cold water. Definitely worth the hike!
