One of the great things I like about living in Del Norte is the Rumiano Cheese Factory. If you are so inclined, you can watch the cheese being made through the windows of the small retail store. I've done that. What brings me back often is the CHEESE!!!! This is serious award winning stuff in international competition but so nice to have locally. You cannot beat the odd block prices or other specials compared to Deli or Grocery store prices. Pepper Jack and Habanero Cheddar are indescribably tasty! Even if you don't normally tolerate the heat of peppers, the milk enzymes keep it from getting too hot on your tongue. Try the ample sample trays to find just the right cheeses to suit your taste then don't go home without it! They are famous for their Dry Jack varieties, but my favorites are the pepper cheeses or calico. ONE THING YOU MUST EXPERIENCE ARE CHEESE CURDS....Hmmmm!!!! If all you have ever had was your your normal store bought cheese, you have no idea what you have been missing. Cheese curds are the stage of cheese after the whey is drained. Extremely mild in flavor that has a popcorn effect of making you just crave more but a unique texture in your mouth. Fresh curds are unrefrigerated with a kind of rubbery feel and makes a, "squeak " sound when you bite through it. Pair these with some crackers, salami, or Taylor Sausage products (another local OMGoodness local treat featured in the store) and you are ready for the beach, Redwoods, rivers or lunch box. I don't consider Rumiano an attraction per se, but a a place you must stop at if visiting our area. You won't regret it. I gotta go get some curds after writing this.

Small little shop you can watch them make cheese from a window. They have "O" so many different types to sample. Yum... They have more than just cheese to choose from and with prices that very cheap. I was told by the friendly staff but have not checked yet. You can visit their website to browse for what you want then call them to place your order and you will get a better price. They even ship. Obviously you will have to consider your shipping cost but it won't get any fresher than this. Must visit.

This is an award-winning, gourmet Italian cheese shop. They give lots of samples and sell fantastic cheeses, bread and other gourmet items.
