The Trails and Rails Museum is full of Nebraska history. Our tour guide said it was his first time giving a tour but he did a very professional and entertaining tour. They have several historic buildings to tour plus a steam locomotive and a caboose. Worth the trip to see.

It's a standard history museum, with several neat exhibits that are standout for Central Nebraska. The tour guides are superb, very helpful, fun, knowledgeable, entertaining, and most importantly they are patient with small children. My kids enjoy going to the programs they have in the summer and their evening family programs!

This museum is unique in that most of the buildings have been moved to the site and refurbished. A history buffs dream.

The good news about the Trails & Rails Museum is that they have been able to attract a number of young, knowledgeable staff to serve as guides. Perhaps I've grown too grizzled with age, but I've come to expect this level of comprehensive knowledge from seniors with long histories at the museum, not from guides under 25 who can make ribald cracks about Dobytown or go on at length about what economic sectors succeeded and failed during Kearney's boom years in the Gilded Age. Our guide Catherine did a great job with what she had.That said, this is not an outstanding museum in 2013. The curation is more typical what one would have expected fifty years ago, with random (albeit impressive) nineteenth-century buildings moved to the museum lot and filled with period antiques. It is good that the staff knows the history of each structure and can share some detail on the artifacts displayed, but there really isn't anything here that a seasoned historical tourist hasn't seen in several other rural museums. It's worth a visit if you are a fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder-era plains history and culture, but you should not grieve if you miss it. (The museum is planning a dramatic expansion in coming years, which may serve to set it apart in the future.)

The title led me to believe that this would be of interest to a railroad enthusiast, but I was disappointed. Sure, it's a good history museum and informative but that wasn't what I was there for. Maybe worth a passing visit but don't expect too much of interest on the rails front.

We liked it. Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We were there when it opened and it was on a Monday, hence we wound up with our own personal tour guide!! Not a large crowd. It is easy to find.

Trails and Rails has a great caboose to explore. Several historic buildings comprise the campus. Special events are worth the stop and the ghost hunting nights are always booked solid.

The Buffalo County Historical Museum contains much interesting historical information about Buffalo County Nebraska. There are many interesting things that are not common knowledge about the early settlement of the County that will amaze the viewer.

apparently the museum is one of neb most haunted places to visit, but by day...no worries the historic attributes were an amazing piece of nebraska history.
