This is a treasure hidden in Kearney. Yes, they advertise, but to truly appreciate the high quality, Nebraska art, the MONA is worth a visit!!

For a city the size of Kearney, I was surprise by the size of the collection, and the quality and variety of the artworks they have collected. If you are a fan of architecture, you may want to stop there just for the building. It's well curated and well maintained. It took us about 2 hours to enjoy this place.

So nice to see a museum that features Nebraska artists. The gift shop is first class. It has many nice handmade items from artists to buy. The location is nice and convenient to other awesome downtown shopping.

For all of us who ever struggled through English class in high school it is worth stopping by MONA just to take your picture with a statue honoring the inventor of Cliff's notes! Who knew it was a real person and from Nebraska no less. The museum itself is very cool, budget yourself an hour or two for a nice walk through all three floors. There is no fee but donations are accepted I think 5 to 10 dollars a head is reasonable. Winter 2014 there is an exhibit of art made strictly from paper some of which will blow your mind. I bought some great local pottery in the gift shop and would say definitely stop in and take a look if your anywhere near Kearney

This is not a large art museum, but has a good variety of displays, a friendly staff, and is very well maintained

What a marvelous surprise it was to drive up to this beautiful stately building, enter it's cool marble and granite halls, there's no entry fee, and walk through its amazing collection of art. And the gift shop is sweet, too. On my visit the collection included works by luminaries such as Bierstadt, Audubon, Alfred Jacob Miller and Thomas Hart Benton as well as many contemporary artists with Nebraska ties. They had a beautifully displayed quilt exhibit going on at the time, too. Well worth the exit from I-80. Check your map for the location, it was easy to find but not situation on the main drag like some attractions. This is a beautiful and well-loved institution that deserves a visit!

We aren't local to Nebraska but visit family often there and the Museum of Nebraska Art is one place we like to revisit when we are in Kearney. The quality of art is top-notch and we easily enjoy a couple of hours soaking up the art. It's easy to fall in love with Nebraska after seeing all the Nebraska artists representing Nebraska's beautiful landscapes and nature. My favorite? The sandhill crane exhibit without a doubt.

Recently we stopped to see the current Quilting Exhibit. My wife and her sister in law were very enthused with the quality of this showing. Every time we decide to stop and spend a little time at MONA it is such a pleasant and relaxing time. This is truly a gem of an attraction which is free to the public and offers rotating displays of this great Nebraska collection.

This was a casual stop, but I think the museum does a good job of representing art from Nebraskans. Nice jewelry in giftshop.

The Museum of Nebraska Art is the state's official site for art produced by Nebraskans and others with ties to Nebraska. It is small, but first-rate. The collection includes some wonderful paintings, a gallery devoted to cranes (Kearney is on the flyway for the incredible annual migration of sandhill cranes), and a very interesting collection of prints by the German artist Karl Bodmer. From 1832-1834 Bodmer accompanied Prince Maximilian of Germany on a Missouri River expedition and documented the landscapes and native peoples whom they encountered. The museum also regularly hosts special exhibits in various media (painting, fabric, literature, etc.). Admission is free (donations are accepted), and there is a shop with a good collection of books by Nebraska authors, prints, posters, and other memorabilia. The volunteer staffing the front desk was knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. MONA is a real gem.

This is a really interetsing museum. It is THE art of Nebraska, which is interesting to find somewhere other than Omaha or Lincoln. It is well worth a visit whil in Central Nebraska.

The museum is well-laid out. Artwork from Nebraskan artists is great! An enjoyable experience and highly recommended!

A reviewer complained about the "rude staff" at MONA. What she failed to provide was her own rude behavior. She pushed her way past a tour group and demanded a ticket. When it was explained on 3 occasions that the museum was free, she left abruptly and complained loudly about being treated rudely. She was not even in the museum for 30 seconds. The staff person asked if he had been rude and 5 different memebers of the tour group said no but that the woman in question had been exceedingly mean spirited and demanding. Consider both sides and the source. I witnessed her behavior and she was far ruder than the museum staff.

While staying overnight in Kearney during our trek across Nebraska on I-80, we read about a special exhibit at their Art Museum so made a stop. It doesn't open until 11AM but since we were also touring another museum, it worked out. Otherwise, I wouldn't have hung around just for this museum. It's not a very large building so can't house a big collection but they've done a nice job w/different exhibits, a nice gift shop and a few interesting outdoor sculptures. Definitely worth the time if you're in town. The Kearney community is lucky to have such a resource.
