We visited the Castle for the normal tour and enjoyed it very much in the past. We've always wanted to visit during the Victoria Funeral weekend. This year we looked at the Castle website and saw it running for two weekends and decided to come into town for the second weekend. We live seven hours away, but we had a little family business that we wanted to attend to, so we picked that weekend. There were a couple of others that would have worked better for us, but we wanted to attend this event. We showed up expecting it to be running. The staff told us that the second weekend had been cancelled months before and that we shouldn't have looked at the chamber website for information. I told her that I hadn't and pulled out my cell phone and pulled up the Castle website and showed her what they had posted. She didn't offer an apology at all once she saw that the Castle website showed the event running that weekend. Two other groups arrived after we did expecting the event as well, and one had come from Minnesota. The guide had worked the Victorian Funeral event so they did a "modified" tour trying to cover some of the material from the Victorian event. It just didn't work. To add the final insult, they hand out a flier to all visitors with upcoming events, and it still listed the second weekend as the event as running. I sent an e-mail to the Castle management, and never got an answer, so I can only get the feeling that they really don't care about the customers. That's okay. Other establishments won't say no to my money.

60 years ago, growing up in beautiful Marietta, I never knew who lived in that grand place. It really was spooky. Now it is not only a wonderful museum of Victorian life but it offers cultulral experiences from that time. And I once walked on the glorious red oriental carpets before my neighbor gave them to the museum. This is one of the 'must sees" in a town full of history.

Not a castle but a beautiful, Victorian house. Arrived early afternoon and was the only visitor there. Thought I might have to wait for others to turn up but not at all. Watched a short video about the history of the house before being shown round by Misty. The tour was very informative and Misty was a great tour guide and source of information. Only problem was no photography allowed inside and only limited availability of pictures to buy in the office. I’d have loved a picture of the filigree screen in the living room.

Situated on two city plots raised above the street and sidewalk, The Castle commands attention as visitors approach it on Fourth Street. Built in Gothic Revival style with is pointed arches and a castle tower, its grounds are surrounded by decorative black rod iron fencing that reflects the house's style. Upon entering its taller arched wooden front doors, one is immediately impressed by the high, 12 foot ceiling and all the rich wood on the floors, the doorways, window trim and several of the mantles throughout the house. The life style of the 19th century wealthy is on display in all of the mansion's rooms from the formal dining room and parlor to the master bedroom on the second floor. The well informed docent, which was Jaye when I visited, vividly brings the manners and customs of the 19th century to life from the use of calling cards to saving one's hair for memorial pieces and works of art. The house has been lovingly restored to reflect the lives of the various well-to-do families who resided within its walls. One's tour begins in the stables, which also have been restored with the addition of rest rooms and water fountain. A short video which gives an over view of the house's history is shown before one visits the mansion. A small gift shop is also located within the stables. Beautiful flower beds surround the house.

The Castle was an amazing home where carved doors and spindle wood pieces were in every room. The guide was very informed and gracious. There are other homes on fourth street that will take your breath away, however they are not open for touring just walking the block is amazing.

Marietta is a charming historical town well worth a visit. The Castle is a historical mansion that has a really interesting background. Unfortunately it was modernized in the1970’s but it has been restored as much as possible to its original condition. In fact, the restoration itself provides interesting insights into what can and what cannot be salvaged from an old building after it has undergone changes. The real asset of the place is the staff who are very knowledgeable and keen to explain what you see.

If you enjoy history, culture, and architecture, this is a tour you will want to take. The old house(circa 1855) is beautiful and has a very interesting history. We loved the old furnishings, beautiful rooms, and period clothing. We also enjoyed hearing many of the stories of the various owners and their families. The tour takes a little over and hour and is preceded by a 10 minute introductory video shown in the old wagon house and stables. Tickets are purchased here...about $15(?). I would say that the only downside to the tour is (customary in many old home tours) that interior photography was prohibited. There were many exterior photo opportunities.

The Castle of Marietta is considered one of the best examples of Gothic revival style architecture in Ohio. You start the guided tour in the former stable with a short introductory video about the former owners. Our tour guide was Scott, the Director /Curator. Scott was fantastic because he gave information not only about the Castle but also interesting history of the area and its inhabitants. We were lucky that our group was last of the Saturday and very small but Scott was still enthusiastic and did not rush.Stewart Bosley and his sister Bertlyn were the last private owners and responsible for the renovation, modernization and repairs. Stewart came from show business background and you can see his interesting touches throughout the Castle plus he was smart to use salvaged pieces from the area. The Castle also serves high tea so call ahead to ask. They have various programs throughout the year. Delightful tour and friendly staff.

This is a beautiful old mansion that has been lovingly restored. It was easy to feel as if we were standing in the nineteenth century. The furnishings were lovely and the architecture of the home was very interesting. Before we toured the home we watched a video that explained the history of the families who lived there. Especially delightful were the ladies who were guides...thank you very much to them!

This is an interesting historic site and worth the low cost of admission. I wish you were allowed to see more of the house but what you do get to see is quite intriguing and it's a good look into how the 1% lived in that era.

Very interesting home with tours that explain the people and times that it has housed. This is where you can make connection for the Mound Cemetery tours also which explain some of the rich history of the area.

Great care has been taken to keep the era and history of the Estate current and available to all. From the front of the manse the view is awesome. When in Marietta do not miss it. This is a Not for Profit Manse steep in history of the area...donations are appreciated to keep the grounds and building in repair.

The Castle was a nice view into an older lifestyle where luxury was an emphasis. The pieces in the house were from the period. The film at the beginning of the tour provides snapshots of the house that you can picture in your mind as you walk through the tour.

This is like stepping into a past era. The displays are great and you get a sense of what it was like back in the early days of our state history.
