My favourite place on the entire island. Every time I have visited Malta ,I have gone here. It's such a beautiful location, over looking the city from the Café in Fontanella to the strolling the gardens. The sight are breath-taking. It's a very relaxing place. I recommend this place to everyone. There is so much history enriched into the buildings around it. I have visited it with family mainly ,but it can be done alone.

Visiting the old city of Mdina was like stepping back in time, the clip, clop of horses hoofs & carriage wheels adds to the magic which combines perfectly with the architecture of the buildings.

Mdina known as the silent city, the name says it all it is a very quite place to walk around .the medieval walled city is set on a hill , use the x3 bus it will drop you right outside the city gates. trhe city is still inhabited but very few cars are seen .horse drawn carriages are for hire by the city gates .There is not a great deal to see although the dungeon tour is worthwhile for the more ghoulish with 75 wax figures on display in various states of torture.,the views from the walls is spectacular.

I went for a walk here during a rather unsatisfactory tour but the city itself is well worth seeing. The architecture is incredible.

You cannot be unaffected by the winding alleyways and ancient stone structures. If you have any interest in history then allow your imagination to carry you back because Mdina will help to aid your mind.

We were in Mdina in March and had the city to ourselves. We walked down alleys and rarely ran into other people. It truely was the "silent city". We ordered take out sandwiches from a little cafe and ate them overlooking the harbor and surrounding hills. I wish we had more time, I would have certainly taken one of the small horse drawn carriages but we were rushed due to it taking so long to travel to Mdina. Be sure to plan on travel time.

Extremely charming small road/walkways, with tons of history. Still a 'living' city, which makes it all the better!

It was authentic and non commercialised. It was very peaceful and well preserved. We enjoyed the chapels and the interior was stunning. Truly beautiful

Mdina,or the silent city stands majestically on a hilltop and is one of the most breathtaking sights you will ever see. This former capitol of Malta, built as a fortress with narrow streets, beautiful churches and imposing buildings is a pleasure to discover. As you enter the city you will see the tourist information bureau on the left hand side where you can obtain a map of the city which shows the attractions to visit,, one of which is the old prison which is directly opposite.Well worth a visit if you're brave enough. When you reach the walls the view from there is amazing and an ideal place to sit on the balcony and marvel at this wonderful city. There is very little traffic allowed inside which adds to the pleasure of strolling through the quiet streets A really unique experience not to be missed..

Mdina is a maze of narrow atmospheric streets. Off season it is quiet and you almost have the place to yourself! There are several nice places to eat and even nicer places in Rabat. The Mdina glass shop is lovely and the Cathedral and adjoining museum is worth a stop. There are frequent buses to and from Mdina and a taxi from St Julian is just €20. Walk from Mdina into Rabat and visit the catacombs.
