As a local I have visited the Abbey several times. It is undoubtedly the best attraction in Paisley with a lot of history to tell.

If you like stunning architecture and amazing stained glass, coupled with masses of history and lots of interesting back stories, this is the place for you. We went midweek, so it was very quiet, and ideal for taking photos without getting other people in the shot. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and for a small voluntary contribution run guided tours on Tuesday and Thursday. My only criticism is one that can't be aimed at the abbey or staff, but at the students who use the abbey and its architecture for their studies. As we live in Barochan, one of the main reasons for our visit was to see the Barochan Cross. Unfortunately a group of students were using it for a photographic project, and rather than working around visitors, they had camera bags and equipment all over the floor, and obscured the cross to the point where it wasn't actually worth trying to see it. A bit of a downer to an otherwise enjoyable visit. We will go back, and hopefully there will be a few less students, or a few more considerate ones.

This abbey is a sight to see,the architecture is magnificent.Dating from around 1560 the abbey remains the same, some parts rebult but congratulations must go to the curators and staff for the upkeep of this fantastic building. It is really worth a visit if only to see the stained glass windows and the magnificent ceiling.

If ,like us, you enjoy historical buildings, this is a must see attraction in Paisley. Right in the middle of town it is hard to miss its Majestic Presence. Centuries of history endow this beautiful building which is now a Church of Scotland place of worship. Feel free to join the locals at worship and you will be made very welcome. Or just stroll in during the day and have a look around or take an informative tour. Visit its quaint little souvenir shop or have a cup of coffee and a scone in the coffee shop. We will return on our next visit.

The architecture both inside and out is many centuries old ,this is where Robert the Bruce lies ,along with his wife .A plaque of the American declaration of Independence is on the wall of the Abbey as one of the original signers came from Paisley.

Originally a Cluniac monastery, paisley abbey became a Church of Scotland after the reformation in 1560. The Abbey has links to Marjorie Bruce, whose father was the Scottish King Robert the Bruce. Marjorie gave birth to the first of the Stewart monarchy - King Robert II. If you are into architecture and design then the ceilings and pews in Paisley Abbey will be an Aladdin's cave of excitement for you. Over the centuries there were many fires which destroyed buildings resulting in others being built. During restorations in the 1990's the original drainage system used for kitchen waste and latrines was discovered, pinpointing where buildings would originally been situated. Also, Gargoyle's on the outside of the building were replaced and one was made to resemble an alien. It really is a fantastic building and definitely worth visiting

The Abbey is by far the most Attractive thing in Paisley,it has a history that is matched by little else in Scotland/UK,a truly superb experience,if you have never been,go.

We visited the Abbey at night and it was well worth it. It was well lit up and has been around since the 1200's. A not to be missed attraction in Paisley. It has very strong architectural lines and form and is a solid construction.

I am not religious but i went to the abby on a sunday with friends since they "believe" the service was good and there where a lot of old folks which can sing good! The abbey itself is beautiful and worth at least one full hour to see and explore the history. In summer you can get on the roof which i heard gives a spectacular view. enjoy Scotland!

Took family from down South on a visit and myself who comes from Paisley and had not been. The experience was very interesting, saw a lot and found out information that I did not know anything about . Spoke to a Guide who was full of information and made the visit very enjoyable

Yes paisley Abbey was in fact built by French monks, I did not know that either. This snippet of information came to light one wet day in Glasgow when we toured the Religious Centre.Everything about the abbey is stunning from the carved masonry to the stained glass. The internal acoustics are pitched perfect, I had the pleasure of seeing the Kolner Chamber Orchestra perform and it was stunning. If you like Churches/Monastic sites, a visit is a must, and even better if you can get a guided tour, but even wandering about on your own you get the impression of grandeur. Check opening times, and especially watch out for it being included in Paisley’s Door’s Open Day.

Wonderful abbey originally founded in 1163 by Walter Fitzallan, the various parts of the abbey make for a wonderful visit, especially if you are lucky enough like me to visit when the organ was being played. There is a snack bar within the abbey which makes for a lovely place to relax after your visit. I found it very surprising ti see how much there was to this beautiful building.
