The museum is great, exhibition objects are in a very good condition and lots of interesting informations ambout the history of Åland ship industry.I found 10€ quite a lot (well you can come back with your ticket and enter another time for free), also in winter the tallship "Pommern" is not open for visitors, which I found very sad, even if I do understand that because of the weather it is safer.Otherwise great museum if you are interested in ships, there is also lots of stuff for kids. You can try to make some knots, explore cabins, there's a little interactive module to see the routes of the ships. Some short movies and I really liked the figureheads.

Much to see and do, with a special focus on children aswell. Nice treasure hunt, a room just for children to play and learn about ships etc. Things to try, like tying knots, pulling/loading a ship. In the collection there is also one of the only real pirate flags :). Nice museum shop and above the museum there is a great classic style restaurant.

This museum really lets you know what life was like during the era of the great tall ships sailing vessels before WW II. That is their main focus, but other aspects of merchant mariner life are well covered, too. Don't miss their crown jewel, the intact 4-masted bark Pommern moored nearby.

The maritime museum is larger than it looks from outside and there's a lot to see. Much of it was really interesting, but my problem was that it wasn't clear how the exhibits were grouped together, and the narrative wasn't always clear. Still worth a look though, especially with the Pommern, which is moored next to the museum and included in the price,

I strongly recommend to book an afternoon or morning to visit this museum ! Boat is great to see, and there is explication relative to sailors lifeS aboard during trips. You can discover many interesting objects and pictures there. The museum by itself is greatly organise and everything is super interesting ! I regretted to had less than 2 hours to can spend there. I would just say it can be a bit long visit for small children (less than 6) regarding all information provide and readings...

I had heard how good this museum was, and it was the main reason for my visit to the Aland Islands. I was enthalled by the experience, and came back on two separate occassions. For anyone who has an interest in the last great days of commercial sailing ships, this place brings it all to life. The Pommern lies alongside and is in pristine condition. Only a crew needed and the sails bent onto the yards and she could proceed to sea. Ashore there are numerous displays, some interactive, and the way that men (and some very tough ladies!) lived and worked these sailing ships was well illustrated. The museum staff were most helpful, and as a special treat I was allowed to use their library which contains an enormous range of books and records. I could not recommend this museum more highly.

Nice small museum, but still big enough to be interesting. Lot of small articles and couple of bigger "sections". Do not miss the ship "Pommern" which you can enter with the same ticket!

Visit this place when you are in Mariehamm. Great little museum depicting the maritime history of Aland. Be sure to check out the Pommern ship, and take a moment to relax and watch the cruise ships sail in and out of the harbor.

There is so much to look! I love ships models, there were plenty of them! Very good shop! Parking is near.

A gem of a visit, so glad we made the visit. Joint ticket with the Pommern sailing vessel moored nearby. We arrived at the Pommern on the previous afternoon an hour before closing but they let us carry the tickets on to the next day. Discounts given for over 60s too. Great displays interests for children too. Nice things in the shop.

Only few hours from home and a lot of history. By boat from Sweden to Åland/ Finland! Not too many tourists , nice nature, good food!

A museum for all ages and tastes. Even if you are not especially interested in maritime history, you will enjoy it and learn something.

This island was a gem; we walked and hiked the entire city in a day. We soaked in the island and felt the museum was very interesting. Tiny town with a big history in shipmaking.

The sailship Pommern was built in 1903 and is still going strong. The life of sailors hundres years ago were hard, and both the ship and the museum give the visitor a good lesson in the differences at sea. The captain having his own saloon and separate bathroom, while the ordinary seamen had a very modest and shared accommodation.
