Walk through the narrow streets in Guardiagrele and after passing all the shops, cafes and main church, you will reach a square at the top of the town. Here you will find a fountain showing the talent of the local artisans.A pleasant short walk up the hill with something to look at at the end. When it is not lunchtime Guardiagrele has a lovely feel about the whole town. The "real" Italy.

Guardiagrele is a pretty walled town in the region of Chieti Abruzzo. Lovely little shops, with the traditional vaulted ceilings. A great Wine shop where you can by local wine by the litre. Very nice delicatessen with a great selection of local meats and cheeses. The town is worth a visit , rambling down the pedestrianised long street or exploring the side streets through the little arched lanes. Lovely views of the area from platformed watching area. Also a pretty park with a trendy outside bar area. We visit every time we are in the area.

Picturesque, old town hidden in the mountains. Great place to take a leisurely walk in the historic centre, see the panoramic views and enjoy some of the best foods in Abruzzo. Many lovely delicatesen sell top-class prosciutto (go for dolce) and a little bakery where we had some cookies and buns (forgot the name, but trading for nearly 200 years). Formaggio (savoury) and ricotta (sweet) buns were an absolute hit. Tip: most places are closed 1-4 pm!

With a family holiday home nearby, we visit Guardriagrele regularly, on a Sunday for the market and to sit on the square and have a cafe and nibbles. As a couple we have visited on more than one occasion at night in the summer and like to sit out at the bar at the top of the town with a cocktail watching the locals. There are some exquisite shops in Guardriagrele, the locals are very friendly and the frozen yogurt place Yogold is excellent as is the restaurant Tapu :-) beautiful

We love Guardiagrele. It is a really interesting town with artisan blacksmiths. We bought several lights from a great blacksmith here and friends have also done the same. The main street is traffic free and there are some lovely bars to sit and have coffee. There are of course the famous cakes as well! Also one of my favourite shops is a food shop towards the top of the hill which sells fabulous honey with nuts, amongst other mouthwatering things. Porchetta rolls on a Saturday are not to be missed. The town has a lot of atmosphere and although I have not eaten a meal there, I am told good restaurants too.

I like to go to Guardiagrele when I'm in the area. It is a nice small town that offers handcraft and nice cakes. There are several small shops to buy unique handmade objects.

Gisellette

A beautiful hilltop village, full of nooks and crannies to explore, backed by the beautiful Majella range of mountains.Good restaurants, live music on occasion outside, a lively atmosphere and friendly place..

Montazzio

One must stop at the Pastry Shop and have the famous Dolce dating back the the 1800's

The journey up to Guardiagrele is a beautiful trip with lovely countryside. A visit on Sunday is a must when all the town is out going to church and the town is alive with people. You can sit outside the large church at the cafe and watch the world go by. There is also a nice park to walk around.Nice for a few hours visit.
