barnston island

We have been going to Barnston Island for years. We drive to the ferry and leave our car and walk on with our bikes or go for a walk and don't take the bikes. The island is just under 10 km. It is a great place to take kids on their bikes and the parents ride or walk. There is a small park with picnic tables 8 km to the right or 1.8 km to the left. This is a wonderful shaded and well maintained spot for a rest and a picnic. We have been there during all seasons and love it. The road is paved and is not busy. A very safe place to take your children or to go for an undisturbed walk on a country road beside the Fraser River that is always in sight. he only traffic is local traffic of the few people that live on the island. I do not recommend taking your vehicle over because there is NO public parking anywhere. It takes just a few minute to cross over the river on the free walk on ferry and the ferry is going continually all day lone. Excellent escaps from the busy city life into the country without actually leaving. So refreshing.
