Shopping for art and used records, eating good food, listening to live music, and watching live theater - a great way to spend the day and evening. Art, odds and ends to suit many tastes in an atmosphere that may remind you of the good parts of the 70s, if you are old enough. Plan to stay a while and explore but check the hours and what is going on first.

Definitely a must do! Great place to head to for a early Friday evening event with friends for a wide variety of music.

Fun place with lots of local artists. Great place to spend a weekend afternoon. Don't miss Happy Tummy for a sandwich, and Piper and Leaf for some yummy tea!

The rustic/repurposed mill building, located on Seminole Drive in Huntsville, Alabama was very interesting to walk through. It has been converted into rental 'rooms' for various types of artists. There are three stories of artist rooms, with almost every medium imaginable. Included in the assortment is an amazing cigar box guitar shop, where you can buy a stringed box ready to play or build your own. There were several painters, crafters, photography studios, and repurposing artists. Definitely an artist's 'paradise'. That being said, it was somewhat overwhelming with so much in one place. But, then again, I think that is the sole purpose. Honestly, I can't comment much, as far as pricing of things for sale, goes, since the wife and I only browsed the three floors, as something to do on a Saturday. The one shop that we did buy from was Piper & Leaf, a specialty tea shop (http://www.piperandleaf.com/). Their teas are VERY good, and the pricing is what you would expect from a specialty shop, more on the pricey side.Lowe Mill is definitely a place you have to see to believe, but for me, I think once was enough.....

This community of artists is the largest in the Southeast. It has recently been expanded and has become even more fantastic! Love the many studios but also the eateries and coffee shops plus other attractions.

You never hear the bad side of some places. The people in charge have such power trips it's sickening. I've seen it a million times. It's almost like they think they are so much better than everybody else. I've watched one of the ladies in charge of the Flying Monkey belittle so many visiting artists that it makes me sick. I've been shopping at the flymo since January of 2010 and it's only been getting worse. Then, when you try to talk to the other heads about it they all defend her and act like you're crazy. Plus, it isn't kid friendly. If you have a child they look at you like your child is a bull and they are a china shop. If I didn't like piper and leaf so much I would never go back.

My first encounter with Lowe Mill was to enjoy a 'Concert on the Dock', because I love live music in any form. During the warmer months, these free concerts have a small festival feel and are a great way to get the weekend started. Coolers are welcome, but there are also a number of food trucks if you don't have time to prepare a picnic basket. The talented musicians on the dock are just an hors d'oeuvre for what is waiting for you inside. The building, which used to be a textile mill, has been converted into spaces for artists. There are three stories of artist working in too many mediums to list. There is an amazing cigar box guitar shop, where you can buy an instrument ready to play or if your not careful, they'll encourage to make your own. There is also a small theater where they host swing dancing on Thursday nights and all sorts of other performing arts throughout the week. On a recent visit, my daughters sat in a studio and completed their very own paintings of a pony and a our dog with the help of an artist. I just can not say enough good things about Lowe Mill. All the artist who call Lowe Mill home are very talented and will provide you, a one of a kind gift for a friend of a loved one or better yet, something that will add beauty to your own life forever. Don't miss Lowe Mill. I promise you will not be disappointed. For current happenings, check out their website: http://www.lowemill.net

I'm not sure what else to say. We were visiting the area and decided to check this out on a Friday night. We arrived after dark and the place just felt a little creepy, honestly. A lot of interesting art, but definitely not our style

We really enjoy going to The Flying Monkey Arts Center in Lowe Mill. The Concerts on the Dock are excellent...the atmosphere is great as well as the music. The businesses are eclectic...pretty good food possibilities...superb artists. It's hard to beat!!!

This is an old cotton factory with three floors of studios of all kinds of artists that is just wonderful to meander around. Each studio has a large picture window so that even if the artist isn't in at the moment you can gaze in and see his/her art and their process. Be sure and cover all three floors because each floor has a different vibe. On the first floor make sure to visit NICKEL CIGAR BOX GUITARS and talk to John Nickel, if you can. He has on display the most fascinating assortment of guitars made from cigar boxes of all types. While I was there he was teaching a class but he paused and plugged in one of his electric cigar box guitars and played several tunes that made me want to start my life over and be a musician. His Alna Cigar Box Guitar Company seems sincere, generous, and flat out wonderfully inspiring.

I randomly found this on a web site when looking for things to do in Huntsville. Although I haven't experienced it yet, they host many types of outdoor concerts on the docks. The mill is home to many artist studios and plans are to open more soon. Every Saturday art is on display and for sale. Great husband and wife to girlfriend trip. The sandwich shop was good but SLOW. Still worth the wait but plan ahead and don't get in line when you are starving. I look for this to become really popular.

Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment is a great place for the artsy crowd, for those seeking entertainment, and shoppers. The variety of artists whose galleries are located at Lowe Mill is varied and interesting. If I lived there I would take my photography clients there all the time! I only wish that I had more time to explore!

What better use for a historic textile factory than an arts and entertainment venue? :) Lowe Mill is an eclectic mix of art studios for every kind of medium (primarily on the 1st and 3rd floors), rentable event halls, an organic foods restaurant (The Happy Tummy), and a Saturday market for almost anyone looking for hand-crafted wares (held on the second floor). With its high ceilings, planked wood floors, rustic brickwork, and abundance of windows, I've personally fund it a charming backdrop for photography. In the summers, they often hold free concerts on the lawn out front. (Check out their website for details.) Getting to watch the artists and musicians at work is truly one of the great wonders of this communal concept. If you can catch them open, the glass blower is a delight to watch. I like to bring most of my out-of-town guests out for a tour.Due to the age of the architecture and location, the building has a sort of industrial grunge feel about it--which isn't for everyone. For the most part I've found it to be clean, but the bathrooms have been found neglected on some visits. The artwork itself isn't always family friendly, but one should really scout things out ahead of time before bringing children into most venues of this nature.

Lowe Mill is perhaps on of the best art venues that I have been to. The art is amazing and there is always something there for everyone. I love the concert on the docks series that they have too. If you are a lover of art this is most definitely a place to visit. There are many different shops with artist practicing in different mediums. If you check out their calendar some of their resident artist offer classes to the public as well.

Travelers who appreciate art and artists, will not want to miss the experience of Lowe Mill. An old three-story mill building has been divided into studio shoppes, where the visitor can watch the artists work. The resident artists create in various mediums. There are, assuredly, treasures to be found that will grace your life. You can browse and learn for hours. You will enjoy the food provided by the vendors. Inspiration oozes from the reclaimed architecture. Lowe Mill can be a leisurely respite from the hurried city life, or an actual destination chosen to bring you to visit the Rocket City. The motivation is irrelevant. The experience is the blessing.Bring your camera; but your picture may be taken, as well.Enjoy...
