Midway is a charming little town with tree lined streets of historical homes and it sits in the middle horse farm country. It is full of interesting shops and good restaurants. Main street and Railroad street are lined with historical buildings and the train runs right between the two streets.

As the name implies, Midway, KY, is located midway between Frankfort and Lexington and is a charming little community surrounded by numerous thoroughbred horse farms in the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky. There are a few retail shops and restaurants that line both sides of the railroad track that runs right thru the center of town. In addition, a couple of antique stores are on adjacent streets as well as some neat old southern homes surrounded by majestic trees. Enjoy some shopping and dining in little Midway.

walk through the various shops on both sides of the rail tracks. Sit outside at one of the cafes and just let the time go by. Try Heirloom for an upscale meal. Very enjoyable place to relax and layback.

A train track separates the sides of town. Very scenic little downtown with many shops and restaurants.

We set out on a day trip to Midway Ky as we had been told it is a great stop for a look at an early American small town. We arrived at 11:00 am on a Monday in August to find each and every shop CLOSED. We had viewed websites and saw that shops open at 11:00 so we timed our arrival that way. The only place open was the tourist store and they told us stores should be open so.......we hung out for 30 extra minutes only to find nothing open. sleepy little town for sure! It is a very pretty and interesting place....loved the college campus and grounds.......would be a great stop if shops were open.......

Art galleries, boutiques, and Americana. Nice place to visit. We were there on Sunday so at least half the places were closedA lot of leather handbags. A lot of items with a horse motif.

What a hidden gem Midway is! Just a very sweet little walk down memory lane with lovely restaurants and shops to visit.

Great little town for a girls getaway. Enjoy lunch at Darlin' Jean's (save room for the cobbler made fresh daily) and be sure to try their Potato Salad (and I don't like potato salad)!! The Boutique owned by Jeanette at the end of Main Street (About a block long) offers a treasure trove of trendy and classy clothing, jewelry and shoes. You won't find yourself coming and going in this town....unless you are on the train that runs through the center of town.

A delightful discovery as we toured the horse farms outside of Lexington! A small town with a train track right down the middle of its main street that beckons the traveler to stop and enjoy. Nice shops, decent restaurants and warm-hearted people make this a place to visit more than once.

The downtown is about a block long, with lots of really top-notch shops. Prices are reasonable, and, if you like horse stuff, it's there. Also a great men's store, Freedman's, has nice stuff! Restaurants are worth the time, especially over going into Lexington! People were VERY friendly, and we found British people in a couple shops instead of native Kentuckians, but they all seem to have horses.

If you want to experience small town america go to Midway. One of the few towns anywhere that a train will run down the middle of main street. There are quite a few shops that you can browse and several good restaurants to choose from. Or if you just want a snack, step into the little drug store and saddle up to the old time fountain and order a milk shake, soda or a yummy ice cream cone. They also have some old time candy for sale. Prices are reasonable. You'll want to spend at least a half a day there.

Midway is a darling little town. The main street may only be a few hundred yards, but nestled among the sidewalks are the cutest boutique shops. You'll find something for everyone. Antique shops and restaurants also can be found. A pure by chance happening came to me recently while visiting. It was their Fall Festival and it was great. They had ice cream, food vendors, and several arts and crafts type booths set up along Main Street. There were local farmers selling their goods, as well as Kentucky Proud vendors selling Beer Cheese, Bacon, Country Ham, Sorgham etc. This was a fun little festival and I've marked my calendar to not miss it next year. I'm 1 1/2 hour away, but I will be back!

With another couple, wife and I were doing a whisk(e)y tour though KY/TN. By last day, the wives had toured all the distilleries they could stand so dropped them off at Midway while we did the last tour. The town is small....main street only couple hundred yards long but does contain several cute clothing and antique stores + couple of restaurants. Nice place if you need a sitter.
