We have been driving past the Amorici Winery sign for several years, but in anticipation of hosting some out-of-town guests, we decided to give test to see if it would be worth a return visit with our family.Yes - it was definitely worth the visit. It's a very small winery - literally, a one-man show. The wines are interesting - not the usual sweet wines you expect in New York. But this isn't a wine review.Tastings are relatively inexpensive and offer the usual souvenir glass (a clean glass, not the one you used for tasting). There are two choices - a five wine flight or a ten-wine sample. Amorici actually offers a fairly wide selection of wines (as well as their own grappa and vanilla extract) including a few speciality wines that they stock from sister wineries on Long Island. Host/winemaker Joe takes you through your selection and provides a description of the wines, adjusting the selection he offers based on your reaction to the wines you have already tasted. And if you are interested, he will take you for a tour of his production facility (aka his basement) and his vineyard, complete with his intrusion alarm system (a flock of geese).Amorici is on a dirt road way out in the boonies off Rt. 67, but there are ample signs leading the way. Of course, having a GPS is always useful. Wine prices are actually quite reasonable for a winery. There is a picnic area - they sell wine by the bottle and by the glass, and for those who prefer, they also have a limited selection of beers on hand.
