We set a sleigh ride up for our group at the last minute after a scheduling snafu, and were extremely happy with the experience. Our family, with both adults and kids, thoroughly enjoyed our trip through the forest. The kids had a blast sledding and making snow angels (and throwing snowballs at the grownups). Our driver even let our daughter take the reins for a bit and she's still talking about it. Nancy was a joy to work with on arrangements, and we look forward to visiting again!

I tried to arrange a horseback riding trip for my family. Each time I called to see available times I was told that the owner would call me back. This went on for 3 days. Never called me back. Don't waste your time trying to schedule with this company, unless they get organized! Go to Red River instead!

I took my 14 year old niece on her first real horse ride with Nancy @ Road Runner Tours. She is a very experienced horsewoman and outdoorswoman. She made sure the younger riders had a good understanding of control of the horse, and what to do in an emergency. She matched up all riders with horses to suit their individual experience. The ride through Carson National Forest was beautiful, and much more exciting than some trail rides I've been on. My horse-loving neice was so impressed with Nancy, that she wants to have her own excursion outfit one day! I will definitely go out with the trail rides again. I also have gone on the winter sleigh ride with steak cookout. The ride went into the forest to large camp tents, complete with wood burning stoves. They were suprisingly warm and comfortable. The kids did some sledding on the hills, and then we all had hot chocolate and excellent grilled steaks for dinner. We then rode back to base in the falling snow, keeping warm under bearskin blankets, while watching New Years Eve fireworks. It was a day to remember!

My husband (experienced horseback rider) and I (novice) had a wonderful mini-adventure with our guide, Nancy Burch, expert horsewoman and owner of Road Runner Tours. Though I'd been on horses a few times before, this was my first time doing trail riding. The ride took us through some fairly mountainous and heavily wooded terrain in the Carson National Forest. My horse was extremely gentle and forgiving, especially since I was pretty unsure of how to control it. Nancy was a great teacher (originally trained to work with Special Ed students) and also a good story teller. We learned a lot about horseback riding and also about the area, 45 minutes from Taos and situated at around 8,500 feet. It was a fabulous experience and we would definitely do it again.
