A 'small town library' captures this, but it is so much more. We stopped in at the park-like lawn at some picnic tables to enjoy a snack. I got curious about this historic building and wandered inside. The building dates from 1902 and a grant from Andrew Carnegie for the townspeople to build a library for the populace. A $10,000 grant was given and the town leaders promised to raise a tenth of that amount for the annual upkeep of this library. It opened in 1904 and has been in continuous service as library ever since then. The librarian graciously allowed me to wander around and admire this building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For that reason alone, it is worth a stop and the history of the Carnegie Foundation and library grants is quite interesting. Mr. Carnegie funded nearly 1700 libraries across the US between 1883 and 1929.The interior is charming as well and quite spacious for such a small building. It was modeled after Jefferson's Monticello. Everything one needs to enjoy a quite time reading and studying is there.

Cute, quiet LITTLE library. The librarian was very pleasant and helpful. Set in a historic building - perfectly blended with the town.

I didn't stay long, just wanted to sample the feel of this historic place. I didn't get a library card, but I understand they will issue you a temporary card if you want one. And you may; this is a great little town to summer in, or to enjoy for two weeks at Storrie Lake State Park (or Morphy Lake, or Coyote).

More than books is the history behind this library. Great place to visit and tour. Great history, architecture and more!

What a blessing to visit one of the few still-functioning Carnegie libraries. It's set in the middle of a beautiful park. Though it had a small-town feel, there were so many areas, reading rooms, and varied interest offerings. We agreed that the only negativeaspect was that we were visitors and couldn't really stay long to sit and read!

This is a small library but an excellent place to visit. The staff is friendly and helpful. Great place to access the internet.

This is a library that is reminiscent of earlier times. Lovely woodwork, quiet reading rooms with oak furniture. Helpful staff. Still it had lots of modern literature, childrens area, videos, etc.

The architecture is interesting, with a domed central room. Too bad they put vivid green astroturf n the steps. Not many Carnegie Libraries are used for their original purpose, so we're very lucky here in little Las Vegas.
