This museum is a great way to spend an hour or two. We happened to have visited when there were docents in costume and they were quite entertaining in their stories of both the times (post Civil War) and the persons that occupied the place. The grounds and facility have been kept in very clean condition.
The mansion was not only filled with period pieces, but also beautifully holiday decorated. The Christmas tour was beautiful, and complete with entertainers in period costumes. Refreshments were also provided. And everything was free!
Beautiful old home place. Very interesting history to this home. Furnishings original to the home. The grounds are beautiful as well.
The tour guide was very informed and answered all of our questions. Beautiful historic house and original artifacts throughout. The entire family from the 5year olds to grandparents enjoyed the tour.
It is very unusual to visit a house of this age that is still furnished with the original household items and furniture. This one has all of that and staff that really care about this house. We had a great guide that was very knowledgeable about the house and surroundings. The house and grounds are very pretty and well maintained. A must for anyone interested in history.
The house looked so grand from outside, the grounds were well maintained. All the memorabilia of the family who lived there have been preserved, and tell taken cared of. The staff, very knowledgeable, accommodating, and was such a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for preserving history
Guide was very personable and very good. House has lovely china, furniture, and antiques. Grounds are nice. Very worthwhile visit.
First, the grounds are beautiful. Which gives the house its proper setting. From the front the house has a rather majestic presence. Most people come from the parking lot to the other side of the house. It too makes a very good impression which is still something considering you're coming in the back door. The docents inside will get you started with either more detailed or less information and let you wander on your own. There are a lot of interesting items throughout the house. Because the owner bequeathed the house and all her possessions in it, it's a very detailed snapshot of that period in history. From clothing to construction.
I have always wanted to visit an American historical house and when I finally got my chance I was not disappointed. Sat in well maintained gardens this house is a well preserved jewel from the past. We were greeted by the curator who gave us an introduction and was happy to chat and answer any questions we had. The house has a lovely welcoming feel to it and a lovely smell of old wood, fragrant tobacco and resin, You would really imagine how it would have been there back in it's day. Well worth a visit.
My sister in law visited this home while my family and I were visiting her family in Tyler. Free entry, donations accepted. Beautiful home where you didn't feel like you were going to get a slap on the hand at any moment. The grounds are also beautiful. We visited in July of 2013 and the lady working there that day mentioned to us about their Christmas display and open house. I would love to go back and see it at Christmas. If I recall correctly, there are actors in period costume at that time.
There's a video to watch before your self-guided tour and it was interesting and helpful. Pretty house, very friendly and knowledgable staff.
This museum is a gem in Tyler. One of the few surging historic buildings in Tyler. Have an amazing collection of objects from people who lived in the house and other period objects. You must go!
Beautiful house and a helpful, informative guide. This was our first stop in Tyler. The tour was self guided and very interesting. Lots of cool antique items and historic artifacts to read about. I only wish we could have walked further into some of the rooms but I understand that they have to preserve the house.
I love to visit Victorian and Antebellum homes so I wanted to see this on our recent visit to Tyler. Not the grandest or most interesting home I have visited but it was nice.
This is a museum about the Goodman-LaGrande family. There are many items and the curator says there are many more in the attic. Wonderful experience!
