My grandchildren love the special events! I always check online before they visit and reserve space at several locations! I have never been disappointed. The staff is always great and the events are well planned.

What can one say, most libraries are libraries except this one has a private guard at the front door to greet or beat you. It has books and computers but in no way feels like a "safe" place. The guard was rude and unless I have a dire need for something, I do not think I would go back again.

A good library with lots of services, from geneology to computer programs and a dedicated support group who holds sales to support them economically. Lots of current books which have made news with their publication are not available at FPL, a situation which I assume is brought on by the slow loss of funds to buy new publications. They have cut hours and have volunteers helping, but it's tough without enough funding. .

Was I ever delighted to find an amazingly fat & sassy classical music section with several different albums of Mozart's Requiem, my fav piece of music. The foreign music collection was a delight and a half because of the wonderful "name" singers like Riccardo Cocciante and Milva. The jazz section is brilliant. When I visited the DVD collection, I was so impressed with the types of documentaries and foreign films because of their scarcity. I haven't seen a collection like this in another library...EVER. The buyer really knew what to purchase. I usually enjoy this section the most after a tough bike ride. So wonderful to listen to some great music whether it's SONGS OF SOLOMON or Etta James. Once in a while, I'll bring in my laptop and watch a DVD @ Graffiti Artists when I know I won't be back for quite a while. When I do come here, I know it's for a few hours & come equipped w/a sandwich. Some stuff is just way too tempting to resist... thus the $18 overdue fine!

Haven't been here in years, but it was the library of my youth. It was pretty great back then.

Best children's book section in Genesee County. Music, audio, and video section on the second floor is a must see.

It has so very much there. Research, how-to, music, DVDs, and the best part is the historical/geneology section. WOW!!!

The Flint Public Library has an excellant website. If you click on the link, it will tell you a lot more than I can write here on this review. What I'll be contributing here are my personal opinions. The Flint Public Library is an excellant resource for residents of the City of Flint and the surrounding county, but visitors are welcome also. You need to have a library card to check out items, but browsing resources and enjoying events are encouraged for all.As you can see on the library calendar (on the website) there are A LOT of things going on all the time. The building is one of the best examples of modern architecture in the city. I think it was designed by Alden Dow of Midland (Michigan's most famous architect). The financial crisis in the city and tax structure has affected the building, it needs some urgent repairs. The silver lining of this crisis is that the library has not renovated the building with one of the hideous remodel concepts that were proposed a few years ago. These design concepts would have destroyed the historic modern architecture of the existing building with a design based more on geometric form than functionality. If the library does ever get the funds to remodel, I hope that they can keep more of the historic facade and lean more toward a cost-saving LEED-certified green design.Another victim of the revenue shortfall was the consolidation of the branch libraries. Now all activities take place at the main library. Please continue the support of this great resource by using it before you lose it. Visit the little store on the second floor (you just might find a bargain). Let the staff know your opinions by filling out a survey and putting it in the box in the lobby. Visit the semi-annual book sales (you can get some great bargains there). Most importantly, when the millage proposals for the library come around, vote yes.
