For years we have taken advantage of what the Madison Farmer's Market has to offer. It is held on Saturdays (I don't know the hours or dates off the top of my head.). We live outside Milwaukee and we usually make the annual trek to Madison. We spend the night, have a nice meal out and enjoy the market on Saturday morning. We have finally gotten smart and we take a cooler with us so we can buy things besides fruits and vegetables (like meat) that might spoil on the ride home otherwise. I would highly recommend it just for the fun of seeing all that is offered. The variety is incredible. The people watching is good, too and there is music. The market circles the capitol building and spills over beyond that. Enjoy!

I was pleasantly surprised at the selection available even in winter. We came for Hook's Cheese, but also took some smoked trout home. There were quite a few root vegetables, and different varieties of green available, apples and cider, plus some crafts, canned goods, and honey, indoors at the Senior Center, all on one of the coldest days of the year!

One of the largest and best Farmer's Markets is located here in Madison, WI around the iconic State Capitol Building on the Capitol Square. The market is every Saturday Morning from April thru mid-November until 1 pm in the afternoon. You name it, you can get it here. Farm/grass fed beef, fresh veggies, honey, gluten free bakery products, flowers, and on and on. When it is sunny out a huge crowd shows up. All traffic moves in an counter clockwise direction. Dogs are not allowed for obvious reasons and I would highly recommend no strollers, for safety reasons. In the winter the Market moves indoors to the Monona Terrace Convention Center from November thru Christmas and then to the Downtown Senior Center on West Mifflin Street. At the Senior Center you can get one of the most enjoyable Saturday morning Breakfasts cooked by a rotating list of guest chefs from the best restaurants in Madison. Don't miss out on that!

Top notch market is held outside during mid-April thru mid-November, covers all 4 sides of Capital Square, then moves inside to Monona Center mid-Nov to Christmas. Then one of the best-kept secrets is when the market moves to Senior Center in January, it features fabulous breakfasts cooked by rotating master chefs. I love the winter breakfasts - especially when L'etoile chef is cooking, or the Mermaid Cafe chef is cooking, they're all very yummy!!

I have never been to the market this late in the season, it was outstanding! There was so much more available in fresh produce than I expected. I picked up a full stalk of brussel spouts for $3, bag of broccoli $1, medium cauliflower head $1.50, bag of spinach $1, squash $2! I also got a variety pack of shittake and oyster mushrooms, dried cranberries and some swiss cheese. I stopped at Silly Yak Bakery which had a nice variety of gluten free breakfast items for me to eat while I was shopping the market. It was a great morning!

Really, this is the best Farmers Market anywhere! It took us approx 2 hours to go through. The market is on the square surrounding the absolutely beautiful Wisconsin Capital building. There are flowers, vegetables, wines, breads (freshly baked), olive oils, nuts (try the Hickory Nuts - a little expensive, but went great with the roasted brussel sprouts we made), cheese, and meat vendors. WARNING - the smells of the baking breads are impossible to pass up - The cheese stuffed baked bread can be shared by many. A great day was spent with "Hen Friends" and then we cooked a great dinner with all of the bounty we purchased at the market. MUST try to get there in the spring/summer. The Capital Building is open for bathroom use, and could be a tour in itself - sooo beatiful!

Best farmers market I've ever seen. Only bummed that is so far away and we couldn't buy more to take home with us. Next trip to the area will make we plan to be there during a Saturday to check it out again.A lot of venders. We went on a cold day and when things start to fall out of season so the vender often sold the same things. But there are still a lot of choices. Give your self enough time to walk around and check everything out and bring a bag with you to help carry all your goodies homeAll of the venders were really nice.

I visited Madison for a fall weekend and enjoyed several strolls around the farmers' market on a Saturday morning. The market extends for about four blocks and was packed with farmers, local producers, and vendors serving ready-to-eat food and drink. The food trucks offer something to please every palate and at affordable prices. The quality and variety of offerings is remarkable - I wish my hometown farmers' market was even half the size!

We drove all the way to Madison from Chicago just for the farmers' market and would totally do it again. Stall after stall of lovely farm-fresh produce, baked goods and other goodies line the square by the capitol building every Saturday. You could easily spend a couple of hours just wandering around, trying the numerous samples put out by the vendors and feasting on delicious snacks. Tired of walking around? Head into one of the many cute little cafes or explore the quaint shops surrounding the square. Parking can be a headache so arrive early.

Walk counter clockwise around the square. You will run into less people. Vendors will provide you with all the information you request. Some things are organic. Watch out, this is an easy place to put on weight.

Running through October this farmers market is every Saturday in downtown Madison around the Capitol building. Heavy on bread stuffs, cheeses, and organic fruits and vegetables - all very nice, but would rate the quantity and quality of vegetable and fruit items below the Green Bay market. Add to that paying for parking.

Every Saturday morning the Capitol Square in downtown Madison is the site of a huge framers market - real farmers, not people who buy from farmers to sell at a booth. The variety is wide, fresh and well-priced. There were some 150 farmers, cheese-makers, bakers and flower growers selling their wares when we visited. This is a must-visit for people who love freshly grown produce and other foods. I assume this is the case every market day: everyone walked in a counter-clockwise direction around the four sides of the Square. If you can't make the Saturday market apparently there is another, smaller market on Martin Luther King street, below the Capitol Square on Wednesdays.

The farmer's market in Madison was so incredible! Lots of booths with really tasty foods, and many of vendors have free samples out which was nice. Definitely worth going to!

If you are in Madison for the weekend, you have to go to the Farmer's Market. On the square there are a ton of great vendors selling anything from squeeky cheese curds (they're actually squeeky!!) to seasonal vegetables and fruits to homemade Amish pies. There is something for everyone. Pricing is similar to any farmer's market: probably a little more than your average grocery store, but it is well worth it! I would recommend Farmer John's cheese curds. I have tried all the cheese curds available and these are by FAR the freshest and best.
