My girlfriend and I took a half day trail ride. The scenery was awesome, the staff was amazing. It was fun just to watch the staff saddle the horses, each staff member was totally compassionate in how they handle the horses. Would totally recommend this for a must do while visiting the Black Hills.

My husband and I took our 10 year old daughter and her 10 year old cousin for the one hour trail ride. One of them had ridden before and the other had not. Everyone at Rockin R were so friendly and helpful that the girls were in in love with the horses before they even left for the trail. They had a wonderful ride and the staff were so fun and funny that the girls could not stop talking about it for the rest of our vacation.

I go on trail rides twice a year and I feel this was hands down the best stable I've seen. Peggy was very flexible with our schedule. And followed up to let us know of a delay. Once there she was very detailed in our instructions, very personable on the ride, and concerned not only about our safety but the welfare of the horses. It was obvious the horses were well cared for and very clean. The trail ride we took was 1 hour. They offer longer ones but my back side is glad we only did the hour. The trail was nice but nothing spectacular. The horses wee so well trained we just rode with our having to do anything. So if you're looking for a place where the horses aren't so tame, you might be disappointed.Only a port a pot so you might want to check your bladder before getting there.

My 10-year-old son and I did the 1.5 hour ride on a beautiful sunny day in late September. We were the only 2 on the ride. We have gone on riding trips on many vacations, and this was hands down the best we have ever done due to our wonderful guide, Walter, and the very well behaved horses. The guide really sets the tone for the ride, and Walter was perfect. Personable and friendly, he kept up a conversation with my son the whole time. He gave direction, but never seemed annoyed or in a hurry to keep us moving. He was full of interesting facts about the area and the fauna along the trails, but didn't seem like a tour guide. The whole place seemed clean and well-run, and the horses were in good shape and seemed well cared for.

My husband and I were keen to find somewhere to take our daughter horse riding whilst in South Dakota. Coming from Australia we didn't know what to expect. On our day trips around Custer we had passed Rockin R Rides many times and decided to take a look. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor we decided to give it a go. I had only been horse riding once before so was nervous but really wanted to join my hubby and daughter on the ride. We booked a 1 1/2hr trail ride and were lucky enough to be the only ones on the ride. Our guide was very friendly and very informative. We chatted the whole time with us telling her about Australia and her telling us about the South Dakota area. We were so excited to see a woodpecker and some deer. The ride was easy and the horses knew exactly what they were doing which was good for me being a very inexperienced rider. We loved getting our certificates at the end as well. Loved every minute and we would recommend Rockin R Rides to anyone wanting to deal with a professional, friendly bunch of people.

My husband and I did the hour and half ride. We enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were able to book the ride early in the morning for the same day, (we were there late in the season and this may NOT work during peak summer months) The weather was cold that day and they even offered everyone gloves and X-tra sweatshirts to wear. The staff knew the horses well and told each rider little pointers they should know about their horse. All the horses behaved extremely well. Sure they were so use to doing the same trails that they could do them without any help from the rider, but that made it easier for the rider to enjoy the views. These horses would be safe for riders of all ages. The cowboy and cowgirl awards given at the end of the ride made for a nice souvineer that we could take home to share.

After seeing reviews we went for an hour and a half and it was perfect. Unless you ride all the time I wouldn't recommend going past the 2 hour mark. We could hardly walk even after the hour and a half ride. Outside of that it was a great ride and beautiful scenery!

My husband and I rode with Rockin R Rides in September 2013 and we both loved it. Peggy was our guide, she was great to be around. The horses are well-treated and well-behaved, and the nature around the stables is just beautful. I would recommend this experience to anyone!

First trip out to South Dakota and first time getting to ride horses. It was an amazing experience. The trail guide was very informative and friendly. Overall a wonderful experience.

We loved Rockin R Rides 2 hour horse trip. We have a 7 and 10 year old and they loved it and we felt very safe. The staff were friendly and the horses were well cared for. The 2 hour trip is just long enough to take the horses up the side of the hill through beautiful terrain and back. We will be back.

First time on a horse for me and a 6 year-old doing a 1 hour trail ride. We missed our riding group because we were late for our appointment, and so they were prepared to take us 2 out specially when they didn't have to. My little one cried at first because he was scared, but he was enjoying himself soon enough to the point that he was giving me instructions. They called us by name the entire time on site and during the trail ride to make it feel even more personal. The horses are well trained and gentle. Horseriding will become a regular hobby of ours thanks to Rockin' R.

My 7-year-old daughter and I did an hour and a half ride together. I have no riding experience, and my daughter has done several of the typical pony rides for kids her age. Peggy, who was very helpful, got us scheduled for a 10 a.m. ride. Our guide, Katie, was very good at giving us instructions up front before we got on our horses. Then we had plenty of help getting geared up to go. They have little saddle bags so that you can stow a small bag/camera/water bottle for the ride if you need to. The trail started up along the road and then headed straight back into some beautiful country with lovely views, some very wooded. It was a more diverse and fun trail ride than I had expected considering it was only 90 minutes. Katie was very friendly, but also let us just enjoy the ride. She gave us a few interesting historical bits along the way. She also stopped to take pictures of us on our horses. This was a great part of our trip and my daughter and I loved it!!! I definitely recommend doing the hour and a half or longer rides to get further away from the road into some more back country like spaces. So glad we did that as I was considering doing just the hour ride.

Had a great time here. I was actually going to book a ride with another stable in the area until I read the great reviews here on trip advisor. SO glad we picked rockin r rides! We took the 1 1/2 hour ride with our 2 children 11 & 9. I was a bit nervous when they brought out this huge horse named Fred for my 9 year old son who had never been on a horse. Fred was the best horse of our bunch! Our trail guide Shanna kept the kids up front by her and was always checking on them. I soon relaxed and my son and daughter were riding like pros! My daughter loved her horse dakota. I had scout and my husband had rooger . Rooger had a little spirit and loved the grass. We had such a great time! Trail was just rugged enough to feel we went on a real western ride. Thank you Shanna and Wayne you guys were the best! Tip your trail guide:)

We got to experience the trailrides offered by Rockin R, and we loved every minute. I was happy to see the love and respect they give their animals, and they ask that the riders respect them too. We went on the 1 hour ride.......well organized, and the lead rider was calm, and hospitable. Well worth the time.

We had a great guide (Katie) who was personable and funny. We took the 1.5 hours ride and this seemed perfect for us. The scenery was amazing. This was the highlight of our trip!
