I drive this way to the coast and in the past looked forward to stopping for lunch at the Buckhorn. It closed some time back but has recently been renovated and reopened. We stopped on January 2 and had a wonderful tasty lunch. The new owners have done a wonderful job of updating the inside and outside. Stop by and check it out.I had the tri tip sandwich and homemade chips. Husband had the pulled pork and FF. Also good. They only had a limited menu as they are still working out the kinks. Really a great start!

Stopped at this old, somewhat run down building, which advertised pizza and a deli. Not much out here but have traveled through on Hwy 166 many times. This time we were hungry enough to stop. Happy we did! Avocado Burger and Bacon Burger were delicious. Ordered one order of fries to share...and that was too many. Generous servings. Menu offered Burritos, hot and cold sandwiches, variety of burgers, and pizza. The 2 women working were friendly and courteous. Look forward to stopping again. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 only because building old but do not judge food by it's cover. Love the drive through this valley.

Heading west, after 33 goes south,is a beautiful drive. Farmlands, a lot irrigated. New Cuyama has a hardware store and Elementary school, Cuyama, to the west. has more. Grocery store, burger place, gas, nice park, Community pool, and High School. I looks like someone is working on the old Buckhorn Restaurant/ Motel. Maybe it will reopen. If you have to stop, stop here... its 65 miles to Santa Maria. Nicest drive from the CV to coast.

Kind of desolate, high plains drifter terratory. Too bad the Buckhorn Cafe has closed - they were a great destination for bikers to go to breakfast! Only place to gas up between Hwy 101 and Maricopa. Can be chilly in the winter and HOT in the summer, so be prepared!
