Any season this park is great. No playground equipt meant means few kids except for those walking their dogs or just walking the trail. The walk is steep and at times slippery but the trail leads you thru the ravine and down to the beach. Just gorgeous.

After you descend the VERY steep stairs, you will see the fenced-in dog park straight ahead. (If you continue to your right, there is another section of the beach that is dog-free.) The restrooms are on the upper level, near the parking lot. You must pre-register in order to visit with your dog. To get your photo permit card, download the forms online and then fax, email or deliver to the park district. The non-resident fee is $140 for the first dog and includes parking.

The stairs are steep. They would be a challenge for many.I wish it was larger and had a better fence. My dog scoots under the fence near the ravine and runs a muck in the trees and up the hill! He also hops over the breaker on the other side, where the rocks are too high!

Moraine Park is one of the recreational parks in Highland Park, recently half-heartedly made into a sculpture park. At the top, you have a wide open grassy area, which would ideally be perfect for letting your dog off-leash... if they were to fence it.Descending the stairs to the beach, you reach a fenced-in area for dogs to enjoy the lake. It's pretty chilly on blustery days, but the dogs love it, and it's a great place to meet other pet owners. You do need a permit to be there, however, and the details about that are posted on the website.
