You get some great looks during the drive between Flagstaff and Sedona. Be sure to pause briefly near the top to enjoy the views at the overlook. It was crazy windy when we were there, but it was still nice to see.

Super road from Sedona to Flagstaff. Love the hills and rivers with a cool switch back at the end of the highway. The snow still on the sides of the road. The rest stop on the top of the bridge is worth the stop to see where you just drove up. We love crazy roads as we love to drive roads that are not straight.

We decided to drive to Sedona and stop on the way back from Flagstaff on the way back to the Phoenix area. The roads were cleared and manageable and it was wonderful to see the change of scenery along the way.We are sure happy to have chosen to drive back this route rather than the main highway.

great hiking and scenery. Lovely towering pines, a great place to enjoy nature! We were here in the winter and it was still great, i can only imagine the beauty in the summer or spring.

We wanted an easy hike near Flagstaff with the famed views and trees of the area. Sandys Canyon Trail fit the bill! The wonderful scent of Ponderosa pines accompanies your jaunt into a beautiful canyon. About a mile, first around the rim of the canyon and then down into the canyon, you listen to the wind whistle through the trees and take in the view of the San Francisco Peaks as you start. Lots of canyon walls to check out, and many different kinds of trees in addition to those lofty Ponderosas. You can make this a much longer hike if you want. Our information said the trail was closed December-March, so we called to see if the trail were open, really not expecting a call back. Guess what! We got a friendly call back within the hour. Great work, Forest Service!

I always love going out to the woods. There are so many different things to do out there! My hubby works for the FS on this forest, so he's always finding new places for us to go see. Get out and explore!

Fresh air in the ponderosa pines. So much to do and to see in wonderful northern Arizona. It is the biggest forest of ponderosa pines.

Amazing and beautiful places to visit. Definitely worth checking out and spending some time if you're in the area.

Loved everything, blown away by the size of the trees compared to lower elevations. Smelled wonderfully "cedar"!

Could not find anything to dislike about it! God's country. Drove up one highway and down the other with little side trips along the way.

This is a large National Forest. Get a map, it is easy to get lost. It is basically all Pine Forest. The forest service is cutting back on the number of roads they maintain because of envirormentalist objections, budget cuts, and lack of staff. Stop at the visitor center in Flagstaff or the USFS Headquarters for the latest information. The seasons really do change a lot. You may need four wheel drive. The rainy season is from July first to mid-september so a lot of the roads get washed out and have large gullies. I am not going to mention all the things to do, because there is a lot. But without some advice, you can end up in some really boring areas or find something special. I have only found it crowded around major holidays or during hunting season...a time when you might want to wear something bright. With the exception of one campground I can think of, camping facilities are limited. The dry and fire season is in the spring, so don't plan on any campfires then.

It has many trails for both bikes and on foot. We love walking our dogs and letting them run around and explore in a safe environment. Very pretty scenery.
