museum of carpet

Visited with a group of 46 prearranged. We were greeted by a whole team of ex carpet workers who showed us around and explained in detail, the museum, the history of carpet making in Kidderminster including it's rise and decline, and also were given live demonstrations on working hand and powered looms. Altogether a very informative visit, conducted around by such enthusiastic and knowledgeable group of dedicated volunteer guides.

Myself and my son visited this morning, the entrance is difficult to find as it's inside the entrance to Morrison's and I think it really could do with larger and far more prominent entrance signs .The cost is £4.50 per adult which initially I thought was a little expensive and perhaps a small concession could be made for those living in the Kidderminster area.which may attract more people through the doors.The museum it's self is interesting and there are plenty of interactive displays for adults and children alike,I would say about 3/4 to 1 hr is long enough to look round. The gift shop is lovely and the hand made items great value for money and would make lovely gifts .The staff are friendly and helpful and the museum is accessible to those with mobility difficulties.

A great morning spent at this brilliantly presented museum. Lots of lovely displays, trails, dressing up and hands on exhibits bringing history to life. Amazing to see the huge loom in operation. Friendly staff were very helpful and additional craft activities were on offer. 2 hours wasn't enough and we'll definitely be going back soon! Admission prices are great value and the shop's well stocked with traditional toys/games/activities.

Fabulous museum detailing Kidderminster's 300+ year carpet heritage.There's a great mix of clear information boards and interactive exhibits. The latter are superb - working scale models, a computer projection feature that allows you to design your own carpet pattern and even a mini carpet testing laboratory! The numerous short films are also very well done.The museum is situated in the same building as Morrisons supermarket in the town centre. I was able to park for 2.5 hours for free which was the perfect amount of time to fully explore the museum. I thought the £4.50 fee was also great value.

I was so presently surprised by this place. It is so small but I learnt so much I was fascinated. How hard people used to work was a real eye opener! Loves the shop too you could buy lovely rugs at very reasonable prices. Staff were brilliant had time for everyone and did demonstrations. I loved it!

for years this was planned before the funding came through to with the help of Morrisons put the plan into actionIf you like History this is a must about carpets and this area The factories are mostly gone now replaced with shopping /retail premises

This is my second review in a few short weeks! There is a really poignant and moving exhibition just opened about the history of the industry and people of Kidderminster during the time of the First World War. This is to tie in with the many events that have been happening this year to commemorate the 100 years that have past since the War began.Do go and see this very moving and beautifully presented exhibition. Each visit I see and discover more. We should be proud of our history and this museum really brings this to life.

So interesting and well presented. Such enthusiastic and knowledgable volunteers you can spend certainly 2 hours or more here the exhibition captures the imagination and reminds you of the manufacturing skill we had in this country something to be very proud of! I now know the difference between a Wilton and Axminster carpet - I came away with a very attractive cushion made by the lovely Janet. We were lucky and had cake as it was the museums birthday a really memorable experience and there is every chance we will return

Thanks to a fascinating visit with my Rotarians friends we visited a great attraction at our door steps. Not being from originally from Kidderminster did not knew much about carpet, thanks to the enthusiastic volunteers there to explain all about it so passionately the 2 hours visit seems like 5 minutes,It was interesting of learning all about the history and origin of the carpet industry, the different looms seen working, selection of carpet designs, cloths, accessible to all age and needs.Worth a visit next time you come either for the Severn valley Railways or WM safari Park.

At first I was unsure about the Museum of Carpet when I walked inside and stepped on hardwood floor, however, I had no idea about the magic that would await me. I have never, EVER, seen so much carpet. It was like I had carpet burn on my eyes. I just walked around in amazement. The staff were friendly and knew everything about carpet, and now I share their enthusiasm for it. I have travelled the world, visited Disneyland, spent new year's eve in Time Square, skywalked the Grand Canyon, swam with dolphines in the Maldives, and I can safely say that the Museum of Carpet is without doubt, the best experience I've had in my life. Since my last visit (my 4th), I have carpeted my entire house, inside and out. Beforehand, my neighbours never knew I existed, but now my house gets a lot of attention and I have received several compliments on my self-made carpet clothing. I love carpets... and ham.

A relative from NZ was visiting us and as an ex Kidderminster carpet worker he wanted to visit. What a lovely museum! Excellent exhibits, working looms(on certain days), lots of interactive stuff for children. The staff are very amenable and enthusiastic about the trade - my guest stayed in the museum for over 5 hours, talking and enjoying the whole experience!. No café, but with a daily ticket, you can go out and return later, so Morrison's café right next door is ideal for a break! The museum is a credit to the town.

Went to see this museum yesterday and was blown away. I learnt so much, for example, do you know the difference between Axminster and Wilton? This makes it seem rather dry but it's not! The interactive displays in museums are usually for children but this one had all the adults having a go. Would you like to design your own carpet? Then use the touch screen and view the result projected on to the floor. The staff, many of whom are volunteers, as I understand it, are a delight, full of information and enthusiasm. The pieces de resistance were undoubtedly the working looms - the noise, the intricacy, the inventiveness and the skill needed to operate them. I came away marvelling at human beings' ingenuity.

After a good lunch with a friend our planned walk had to be abandoned due to the weather. The nearest indoor leisure option to replace the walk was the Carpet Museum in Kidderminster, so without much expectation we went in to while away the afternoon. But who would have thought it? - it was rivetting, with so much to look at and read about. The staff were lovely - very friendly and helpful - and when finally one approached us gently to mention that the museum had in fact closed 15minutes earlier we couldn't believe that the time had passed so quickly and that we were the only ones left! A second visit is definitely called for - both to finish seeing everything and to sample more fully the gift shop which had such lovely things. Highly recommended!

The museum is not very large, but full of interesting items. Working looms, historic pictures, and films to name but a few.The staff are very knowledgeable and are willing to answer any questions that you would want to ask.Allow plenty of time as there is so much to see.

Worked in the wilton carpet trade in Kidderminster in the 1970's. The museum brought back many memories,especially the power looms. The museum is well presented with an excellent overview of the carpet trades. A reservoir of historic and photographic artefacts. Well worth a visit.
