Saw a round of the European Sports Car Championship - excellent! Viewing is excellent as was the racing.

Travelled to the 2014 SBK round and unfortunately it rained on raceday (Sunday) after putting on some great weather for practice and qualifiying.

This is out 8th visit to this circuit and whilst the weather always seems to be cold/wet the views from most areas are superb. There are no covered grandstands here so when it's wet remember to pack your waterproofs! Parking opposite, camping nearby and a couple of bars and restaurants in nearby village of Magny Cours. Admission is €65 per person for a 3 day ticket for World Superbikes

We stayed nearby Magnys Cours with our children and Grandchildren and visited the circuit twice for Go Karting .It's the best circuit for Karting I have ever seen like a mini Grand Prix circuit .The Karting was exceptionally well run and great fun for young and old . Our youngest competitor was 9 and the oldest too old to mention !! The first time we went we had the circuit completely to ourselves which was lovely .For those not taking part there was a balcony with sunshades and coffee

If you're looking for action for your teens, this is the place! Excellent karting track. Young age of 16 and above welcom to handle a great driving simulator (my sons Sony Playstation experts were unable to run against him:-). Every day, which we visited, we observed competition: racing-Cars and Motorcycles

Went to see the Bol D'Or motorcycle endurance race at Magny Cours last weekend 26/27 April 2014. It's a lovely circuit but spectator facilities are poor. There are no covered grandstands anywhere on the circuit. Nowhere to shelter from the howling wind and rain that lasted most of the weekend. Also, there are only 2 jumbo screens. One is at the Adelaide hairpin but it's on the inside of the track, some distance from spectators. You can see pictures very well but text and numbers are difficult so it's virtually impossible to tell who is winning unless you have fluent French and can understand the non-stop, very loud commentary. Unfortunately I couldn't. The other jumbo screen is BEHIND the main grandstands on the start/finish straight so you cannot watch the racing and see the live timing screen at the same time! Incidentally, Le Mans is much better for this - multi screens all around the circuit with very clear graphics so you can easily keep track. Also at Le Mans is a NASCAR style 'ticker' screen with the live timings on display for the whole 24 hours. It's very clear and easy to follow.Back to Magny Cours - the food & drink is the traditional, vastly overpriced circuit fare. £8 for a soggy ham baguette and a can of fizzy drink. And I could only find 2 outlets round the whole track. 5 euros for a plastic tumbler of eurofizz lager. I stuck to the soft drinks.I made the mistake of camping at the circuit. The campsite for bikes is vast but was a quagmire when I got there (not the circuits fault - they can't control the weather!). However, the ground is hard and stony. I had a very uncomfortable few hours in my tiny one-man tent. Now onto la piece de resistance - the toilets. They were/are, truly, awful. Vile beyond description. They appeared to be unisex. Most people ignored the male/female signs on the doors. There were no seats on any of the loos. Most were blocked very quickly with the small amount of paper provided and many of the cubicles had no doors. It's an unpleasant experience going for a poo whilst being watched by others in the queue and then not being able to wipe your bottom. And the stench was nauseating. Some spectators chose to go elsewhere and use their own paper - I found a turd and a used piece of pink toilet paper on one of the (uncovered) grandstand seats...quality.The only way to avoid the toilets is to fast for the weekend so that you don't feel the need to go on the Sunday morning. Or....get yourself an expensive VIP ticket. This will give you access to the paddock and some half-decent loos reserved for competitors and press. Or, take a camper van down there and use your own toilet. Or, book an hotel in the town and go back there for a decent kip, ablutions and breakfast before returning to the track on the Sunday morning.Motor racing fans will also be used to the overflowing bins, litter and general shabbiness around the track. A bit of an eye-opener for a first timer. Top tip - wear decent shoes or boots, whatever the weather, as the amount of broken glass scattered everywhere around the whole circuit has to be seen to be believed. Sandals or flip-flops are a definite no-no.There were some good bits - the racing was brilliant, despite the weather. 24hr endurance racing really has to be seen to be believed. The sight of bikes racing full-tilt, in the dark, at stupid o'clock in the morning, in the rain, is simply amazing. On the A77 motorway down to Nevers, the peage (toll) is FREE for motorcycles. There are signs about 5km in advance and when you get to the peage there's a coned-off bike only lane with the barrier up. You just ride straight through. Brilliant. Can you imagine that happening in UK?Similarly, at the nearest motorway petrol stations there were bike only lanes. Ride up to the pump and there is a member of staff waiting with a card reader and/or cash. Just fill up and they take the payment there at the pump. You don't even have to get off your bike. Again, can you imagine any motorway service area doing this for bikes, here in UK? No, me neither. So, will I go to the Magny Cours circuit again? Yes, but only in a camper van or if I've booked an hotel room in the town nearby. Take your own food, drink and warm clothing to the circuit and it would make the experience bearable, especially if you can avoid using the toilets!

No more Ligier museum. Time your trip for when there's something going on at the track, otherwise... crickets...
