Since it's free we went in for a quick tour, it is alright ! Not very impressive but still pleasant to go to!

There is much to love about this free museum, and Dijon has invested just as much love into curating, displaying, preserving, and protecting these treasures. There are many interesting works that you won't see at even the finest museums. It is commonly held to be the second most important museum in France to the Louvre, and I don't doubt it at all. There are exquisite altarpieces which are a rare treat to see. The stunning figurines and architectural interiors sculpted in these huge altarpiece works must have taken trained masters many years to complete. Suits of armor and medieval weapons are exciting for kids and adults alike. The religious paintings of the Middle Ages are so numerous, that they can certainly start to feel overwhelming like many such extensive exhibits. To lose attention though, means missing a lot of other treats mixed into the exhibit. The highlight of the exhibit is certainly the impressive reconstructed tombs of the first two Dukes of Burgundy, Philip the Bold and John the Fearless. The history of these dukes and their tombs is well documented elsewhere online, but there is no substitute for seeing the incredible intricacies of these tombs in person. By the elevator (I believe on the 3rd floor) there is a painting of this hall with its ornate fireplace and the tombs laid out as they are now. The only difference from the painting to the present day is that the numerous paintings adorning the walls in the painting appear to have been moved into the more recently added museum space, as if a testament to the importance and longevity of this exhibit. As the museum has grown, it has taken over additional areas of the palace, such that exhibits have multiple entrances. We entered other areas for a view of Philip the Bold's kitchen installation, the current visiting modern art exhibit, and the Hall of Statues (in the original museum space). To me, this museum is not to be missed, just don't come on a Tuesday or else it will be missed, because they are closed on Tuesdays. How long you spend here will depend on your interest in the arts; your interest in the art of the Middle Ages; and the attention span of your kids!

The building is a former palace but now a gallery. A few rooms inside are maintained in a historical splendor but much of the building itself is quite dull on the inside. The first floor is best. As for the artwork there are some nice French historical pieces but nothing especially unique. There's a small Egypt section and a modern art gallery also which totally wasn't my thing. However the museum is free so it's certainly with a stroll for at least 30-45 minutes.

walked through on a cold day. It was very interesting and naturally very religious. Large number of tourists walking through and you need to take the time to pause and consider what you are seeing - particularly as everything is only in French. Recommend reading about the Dukes before you visit. Museums in Dijon are free.

We tried to visit on a Tuesday but the Museum was closed. So one of us (the one not working) returned on the Wednesday. The art works are magnificent and worth dwelling on. The main problem was the signage and finding out what was where. Nevertheless, it was a pleasing experience and well worth the ZERO entrance cost. Dijon does its art well and displays it to all. Thank you

very cool stuff, well presented even for someone who doesn't really enjoy museums much. Coffins of dead ducs are impressive.

This art museum is set inside the Ducal Palace. It contains art from various periods but I was mainly interested in the mediaeval objects which are truly amazing. It is free to enter the ducal palace and the gallery sections. There is also a nice cafe-restaurant.

It was a surprise that the entrance was free. The visitors were taken to different periods of key events in France. It was well explained and structured. It's a truly surprise to discover the rest of the museum.

Wonderful permanent exhibits, especially the tombs of the Duke and Duchess. The exterior is almost as worth seeing as the inside as it was the Dukes Palace before becoming a museum. Not as thrilled by the contemporary temporary exhibit. A great way to spend a few hours or the day.

Part of the attraction is the palace itself but there's lots to see here. Highlights for me were the gloriously over-the-top grave of the Dukes of Burgundy, the medieval paintings, the Egyptian room and some of the 18th and 19th century sculptures. The modern section is less successful.

I was pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful museum free of charge. We opted for the audio tour but that was just a small fee.

Its big and will even bigger in the future. The building is already worthwhile from itself.Exhibits change regularly. Admission is free!

As well as free entry you are provided with a useful visitor's guide to help you around the museum. This really is an excellent museum with interesting art and exhibits from the middle ages and 16th century history of the area. The building has large windows looking over Dijon which provides a good vantage point for viewing other interesting architecture in the town.

The museum is in the chateau of the Dukes of Burgundy. They have done a great renovation and are contining with the work. The museum has a great collection of religeous art and a smaller collection of arms and armour. And best of all, admission is free.Don't forget to visit the room where the kitchens were. And if you get hungry, there is a restaurant on site.
