Osvaldo really opened our eyes to the art of wine making. And to top it all off, he welcomed us into his home to taste his Barolos - amazing experience to drink the wine with the wine maker. The whole experience was the highlight of out trip to Piemonte.
We had the opportunity to visit Osvaldo yesterday and it was certainty the highlight of our weekend trip to Piemonte. Osvaldo welcomed us warmly into his home where we enjoyed the next 2 hrs talking about the history of the wine region, the story behind his winery and of course, sampling his amazing wines!! His wines are really delicious and while they are not as readily available at the wine shops, you can find them in restaurants and trattorias around the area. Do yourself a favor and get more bottles when you are there.
We found this place on Tripadvisor and it was exactly as previously described. A little hard to find the place by car so do ask for directions when you reserve your visit. We were a group of six persons, and we met with Carla and the two boys who translated into English. They were so friendly and nice and explained to us about the soil, the sun and the winemaking process. It was interesting to hear that 70 % of their production goes to Norway's Vinmonopolet. After having tasted their 8 different wines we decided to order some to be shipped directly home to Finland. Osvaldo arranged for the delivery through a local logistics company called IWS and everything went smoothly after I understood that I should contact the IWS customer service directly in order to get their payment instructions. All 5 boxes arrived promptly and undamaged in Helsinki and we have very much enjoyed to open those bottles during the autumn and share them with friends. We especially liked the Barbera d'Alba Mancine and the Barolos.
Recently corresponded with the cantina and learned that they are not accommodating any visits now. They are a small, family run operation. Everyone is in the fields picking grapes, destemming, crushing, in other words, MAKING WINE.
We heard about Osvaldo Viberti through TripAdvisor and the reviews couldn't be more spot on.We had the pleasure of a wine tasting at Osvaldo Viberti - what an experience. A small family run winery, Carla welcomed us into their home (kitchen) and since my wife and I don't speak any Italian her 16-year old son Paolo joined us and helped with translations. Unbelievably friendly and down to earth if you want to experience a great, small family run winery and be welcomed into the home of an Italian wine making family (4th generation - I believe), I'd highly recommend a stop. Be sure to set-up the appointment in advance.
We visited Osvaldo during our two days stay in La Morra. I was really looking forward to meeting him after reading all the good reviews, and yes my expectations were certainly met!We met up with Osvaldo at his farm after organizing the visit over mail a couple of months before. We spent two hours in his house tasting and talking about wine. We are far from wine expert, but Osvaldo answered all the questions we had and we learnt a lot about wine in general and Barolo in particular during our stay. We tasted his white Nescetta, the Barbera mancine and three of his great Barolos. He also served us bread and salumi during the tasting. Afterwards we got a tour of the cellar and the nearby vineyard. At the end of visit we bought some bottles of his wines (at very good prices) which I brought home and will save for a special occasion. Before we went we also got a big bottle of cold water which probably saved our life on the walk back up to La Morra ;)Thanks for one of the best and most memorable experiences of our summer in Italy!
We were invited to Osvaldo Vibertis home by his lovely wife which gave us a tour in the small vineyard. Nice tasting of their wines.
The visit to Osvaldo's vineyard is the high highlight of out trip!Thank you for all the prior great reviews in here. We don't have much vineyard visit experience but yet I can tell we have made an excellent choice to be there!I came late due to the unexpected long long lunch in La Ciau del Tornavento! Arrived there at 4pm finally. Carla received us as family and his son was busy with the translation for us coz I do not understand Italian language. Yet the wine and salami also helped the talking well. The three different Barolo got unique taste and style, that shows how talented Osvaldo. highly recommend Barolo Serralunga and Barolo Dei Turchi, the former with great aroma and the latter is with a great Barolo typical structure. The price is very affordable! Mr Osvaldo is a v humble guy. When I gave credit to his wine, he explained it is much easier to maintain quality in small production... A great guy, friendly family and vineyard! I wish him every success in his wine business and for sure I will meet him and Carla again in my next trip to Italy!
Firstly I believe the other reviews are spot on!This is a small little family run winery and he pretty much does all the work himself.Has just build a brand new cellar, however the tasting takes place right in his front room. Amazing host, we sat a chatted for almost 2 hours about his wines, the area, and wine making. Served generous pours of his wine, which are excellent. Along with some very tasty salami.I did this tasting at the end of a visit which included 10 wineries and these wines matched up extremely well.It was a little difficult to find - look out for the sign "Borgata Serra dei Turchi", then look for "Osvaldo Viberti"No matter what level of wine expert or lover your are - this is a great place to visit.
Sarete sempre i benvenuti!!!!
Based upon the overwhelmingly positive reviews of La Cantina Osvaldo Viberti that we read on Trip Advisor, we arranged a private visit and tasting with this most generous man and his lovely wife. Our appointment was the first of several winery visits we were able to arrange during our visit to the Lange region. As it turned out, it was by far the most memorable. Osvaldo Virberti greeted us personally as we arrived from Alba and gave us a brief tour of their estate and winery. It is located on top of a hill overlooking rows upon rows of vines in a vista that can only be described as breathtaking. We then went inside their beautiful house where his wife Carla had prepared some delicious appetizers of local salumi, breads and cheeses for us to accompany our tasting. Osvaldo then preceded to open bottle after bottle for us to taste including Barbera, Nebbiolo and, of course, their best Barolo. They were all delicious! We were treated like family by this warm and talented couple as we learned about their lives and we shared ours over a relaxed and fascinating 2 hour visit. There was no charge for this generous tasting but we were happy to be able to take some of their wines back home with us. All in all, this was surely the highlight of our trip. We thank the Vibertis for their warmth, generosity and hospitality. And we look forward to their friendship in the years to come.
I have no doubt in mind to give this 5 stars for an amazing experience. Not for a fancy tasting room, or prestigious wines... but for the generosity of a family who wants to genuinely share the love for what they do. What you see is what you get. People like Osvaldo and his family are hard to find these days and it was an honor to meet such welcoming people like themselves. Let's not forget about the wines!!! The Barolos!! Wow! Thanks to the family for an unforgettable and personal wine tasting.(make sure you make an appointment first at these smaller family run wineries)
If you want delicious, high quality and sensibly priced wine - this is THE PLACE. Osvaldo together with his charming wife Carla will welcome you, so much so that the hours fly past. Cannot recommend their products and hospitality enough. Well worth a visit.
A few years ago, I was looking for a wineproducer in Piemonte who was working good, making good wines every year over the whole range (from Dolcetto to Barolo) at good prices. It was (believe me) very hard to find ! I visited a lot of producers. Osvaldo Viberti was the man who convinced me. Great wines ! Since that day, I made a lot of customers who are also convinced of the quality of the Osvaldo Viberti wines !!!.
Osvaldo e' sempre un ottimo padrone di casa e con la moglie Carla sanno rendere molto piacevole e accogliente la visita in cantina. Ottimi vini soprattutto il barolo "serra dei turchi". Da visitare.
