Crossing the lush plain of Pietrasanta in the direction of the sea, we reached the Forte dei Marmi, a port for marble arriving from the Apuan Alps. it is also the most elegant resort on the Versilia River, punctuated with villas and boasting an intellectual and artistic haven. Well, in fact, the whole area is famous for its coastal beaches where fine sand and gentle waves invited us to linger. Its no small wonder that the city invited Michelangelo to spend three years to work on a project in establishing marble quarries at the basin of the Alps. During summer is when the action really kicks-in and the magnificent Piazza del Duomo comes to life by morphing into an open-air art gallery where sculpture holds sway as the chief attraction. So, here we sit at the Michelangelo Bar on the piazza, sipping an aperitif, our eyes riveted to the urban landscape accented by round figures and geometric sculptures. You must make a bee-line for the Museum of Models which displays sketches,drawings and models in gesso, wood, terra-cotta and plaster by ,no less than 250 Italian and foreign artists. Absolutely fascinating and a very engaging three hours. Take a picnic hamper or carry bags and scoot out to the lovely public park that offers 100 acres along the Tyrrhenian coast. We hired bikes, navigating the dense network of paths winding through the thick scrub. Its a very pleasant full day.

This was one of the positive surprises of our Tuscany trip. The town is small and not so touristy, with a lively townsquare packed with local and fairly original restaurants. Would recommend 2-3 hours for the visit.

Even among good Italy's connoisseurs, is widespread the opinion that towards the north-western Tuscany the more attractive town centers end up in Lucca: further afield there would be as attractions just the Versilia beaches (for those who appreciate this kind of sea), and those true "pieces of Alps into the Apennines" which are the Apuan Alps; then the thought should run right to the nearby Liguria and the world famous "Cinque Terre". In fact, Versilia region, out of the sea and the Apuan Alps, is a region that doesn't show the "classic" Tuscan landscape, and might seem largely wasted by urban sprawl, by the extension of the industrial areas (primarily those related to the marble processing), and - with regard to the major urban centers, Massa and Carrara - by the prevalence of modern neighborhhods with ugly built form.Yet even in this part of Italy are some hidden gems. Among the first, if not the first, it is certainly Pietrasanta. City founded (as the nearby Camaiore) in the thirteenth century by the Republic of Lucca along the route " Francigena " (the route which in the Middle Ages came from northern Europe to Rome), perfectly preserves its original urban rectangular plan, and is dominated by the castle that had the aim of defending the town.Thanks to a wise policy of municipality and the good response of the citizens, this city now attracts visitors from all over the surrounding area, for the pleasant aspect of its urban form, its shops, restaurants, etc., and for cultural activities that take place in it (for example, it owns a cinema that is also theater, uncommon in Italy for a city of only 25,000 inhabitants).Overall, it is certainly worth a visit by the tourists who already know the most principal sights of Tuscany and Liguria, and who wish to know new attractions.

We had not done our homework before we arrived & the information office was not open so we pottered about. Full of churches & statues perfect photo opportunities! It was too hot to walk up to the view point on the hill but in the back streets we found some marble workshops & sale yards. We easily found somewhere to stop for a drink and a bonus was that as we walked around it was fairly quiet. Took us a while to realise that the bus station is behind the railway station using the underground walkway. A great quiet little picturesque place.

An old little city packed with so much charm Culture it is amazing. small streets, nice shops, smelling good restaurants, many galleries, street performances and the famous Zinadan statue. Great place to spend an evening and nights.

Ogni angolo di Pietrasanta nasconde qualche dettaglio di arte geniale : dalle grandi statue di Botero, alla scala incredibile nel campanile, alla chiesa sconsacrata dove si susseguono sempre mostre alla bella statua di un altro amante della cittadina Igor Mitoraj, all'affresco nella chiesetta della Misericordia con l'inferno ed il Paradiso dipinto da Botero con i personaggi reali, ai piccoli dettagli come il citofono di una casa fatto come un orecchio di marmo, ai ristorantini apparecchiati in modi fantasiosi .... e poi i buoni ristoranti, la piccola pizzeria con la focaccia di Recco, i negozi con oggetti artigianali e particolari ... Un luogo che io personalmente adoro !

Pietrasanta è una cittadina pittoresca e molto carina che merita di essere visitata. Molti sono i bei negozi, i laboratori artigianali di vario genere e i locali alla moda che soprattutto la sera si riempiono di giovani.

Situata tra Viareggio e Forte dei Marmi subito sotto le colline Versiliesi, questa "Piccola Atene" vi stupirà per l'eleganza del suo centro e per i numerosi luoghi dove si respira arte. In estate potrete mangiare e passeggiare nelle vie limitrofe al Duomo, ed anche in inverno avrete modo di visitare le numerose galleria d'arte.

Ogni anno, in occasione delle vacanze estive, torno almeno una giornata a Pietrasanta. Il paese è molto carino, curato e con forte vocazione artistica. Oltre alle bellezze facenti parte del paesaggio da centinaia di anni quali il DUOMO e vari palazzi antichi la città ( visto la sua collocazione a ridosso delle cave di marmo ) offre numerose sculture di arte antica e moderna e altrettante gallerie d'arte. La città infatti e molto popolata di artisti ( prevalentemente legati al marmo e sculture) anche di molto famosi quali Botero. Non mancate di visitare la poco pubblicizzata " Chiesa della Misericordia" dove vi sono due affreschi molto significativi raffiguranti Inferno e Paradiso proprio del celebre artista Fernando Botero. Per chi è amante dello shopping o della gastronomia non rimarrà deluso della città in quanto offre molti negozi carini e negli ultimi anni un rinascimento della cultura gastronomica toscana.Insomma, se capitate in versilia, un pomeriggio o una serata a Pietrasanta è d'obbligo!!

tutto e di più accoglienza,cibo ,perdonale e tanto divertimento e atmosfera romantica,mimè piaciuto tanto che lì si balla anche !!!e il dievrtoimento è assicurato e poi a bordo piscina la sera ,tutto è romantico.

Magnifica città storica antica d'arte trovi tutto ...bei negozietti ...il teatro ...bar storici ...ristoranti...la migliore pasticceria dal Dazzi...la scuola d'arte ...le opere di Botero ...nella piazza principale il Duomo dove si ricorda e si festeggia San Biagio...famoso il suo museo dei bozzetti Pietrasanta...già meta di turisti e ricca di eventi non possiamo ignorarla la consiglio a chi non la conosce e quando siamo in questa città è d'obbligo rendere omaggio al famoso poeta Giosuè Carducci e alla sua casa natale museo a Val di Castello Carducci a circa un chilometro da Pietrasanta...visitate Pietrasanta ai piedi delle Apuane per finire verso il mare alla marina di Pietrasanta con il suo fiore all'occhiello.....( la famosa.....Versiliana ) ...Giuliana B...

Città bellissima, ove si odora l'arte e la storia, molto a misura d'uomo.P.R. (post recensione): da precisare Cinquale non è Pietrasanta e Pietrasanta non è Cinquale.. sono anche in due provincie differenti.. per una cosa del genere verrebbe di mettere un solo cerchio su cinque.. ma la città non lo merita, bensì un solo cerchio (anzi mezzo, anche se non si può dare) su cinque verrebbe da darlo a chi, pur potendolo fare, non corregge un banale errore.. spero nella correzione e di vedere le recensioni di Pietrasanta dove dovrebbero essere al più presto possibile, perchè così si ingannano i viaggiatori!

Cittadina sempre attiva, di giorno e di notte, d'estate e d'inverno, le sue molteplici iniziative culturali ma anche ludiche rendono ogni nuova visita diversa dalla precedente. Storia arte buon gusto in ogni angolo,buoni ristoranti, bei negozietti.

E- un bel boro medievale che si trova nell'entroterra Versigliese (ne e' il capoluogo) , molto bello e pulito il centro con parecchie attrazioni tra cui il duomo (degno di una grande citta') ubicato nella piazza principale e palazzo Moroni.Veramente stupenda la vista dalla piazza principale che vede in primo piano le antiche mura difensive ed in secondo piano le guglie delle alpi Apuane

Pietrasanta è un centro storico di notevole importanza urbanistica medievale e con molta animazione artistica, ma l'indirizzo è proprio sbagliato (non è in Loc Cinquale Provincia di Massa-Carrara, ma capoluogo di Comune in Provincia di Lucca!). Cambiatelo.
