The intricate details of this structure and the pillars of the ladies can only be described as brilliant-even if they are replicas. Whether you visit on your own or with a tour guide make sure that someone points them out. Not to be missed.
There are lovely details carved into this entire building. It is lit at night and can be seen from the Plaka. The pillars of ladies are my favourite part. The real ones are on display in the Acropolis Museum and there are exact replicas standing in their places on the hill top. They are all beautiful works of art and strike a chord in my heart.
One of the two main structures on the Acropolis, this temple is a must-see from both an historical sense as well as from archeological and architectural viewpoints.
the temple dedicated to athena and poseidon has beautiful intricate architecture all over. the 5 maiden statues are mere replicas but beautiful noneless
Everyone will surely wants to see the ruins of Ancient Greece up close because after all this is the place where democracy started. To get in have to queue at the ticket office. Its 12 euros for adults if one wants to see the around the acropolis and its valid for 4 days. We did a mistake for not looking at the ticket.I recommend coming here in the winter, spring or fall because it can get warm even in the winter. It is pleasant and you don't have much crowd of tourists to deal with. The intricate details of the sculptures and its massive columns are awesome.
You have to see this. Well, when you go see the Parthenon, you can't miss it. The Erechtheion is one of several buildings on the Acropolis of Athens. Erechtheion is on the north side of the Acropolis.
This is a beautiful temple on the Acropolis, dating back some 2400 years. The original temple was made mostly from marble, and nowadays you can actually appreciate the original marble, as some very serious cleaning and restoration jobs were done on the temple. The stunning "Porch of the Maidens", is unfortunately an exact replica, as the original statues were removed from the site (5 are in the Acropolis museum and the 6th is in the British museum).Don't miss the famous olive tree and the funny fairytale attached to it (a fight between the Greek gods Athena and Poseidon).
You can see Athena's sacred olive tree and the hole in the roof from Poseidon's lightening bolt. The iconic caryatids alone make a visit to the acropolis worthwhile.
This can be viewed on entering and leaving the Acropolis and is not given a lot of attention by the guides
what can one say about one of the Acropolis jewels? It is elegant and the Karyatids, all alike but with differences in their appearance make the ancient building unique.
Yes Replicas! The real maiden statues have been moved to the Acropolis Museum. Again ..I would like to stress the need of a tour guide to actually know what is real and what is not and the history behind everything. Lots of the original architecture in a lot of these historic places have been recycled for various uses in history..so if you see something and are in awe,,it probably is missing some parts due to recycling for materials . Nevertheless...to stand in these actual grounds for some reason is very surreal due to the heavy contribution this civilization has made to our world !
This entire Acropolis area is interesting. Three building ruins along with Mars Hill makes this area a must-see.
When walking to the Parthenon see the maidens must have a guide for historical comments .walk around get pictures from several views . Visit the museum first with a guide then use that guide to tour the hillside . A must see .its why you came to Athens!
