I have been to Ischigualasto park (Valle della Luna) in January, it's really worth it. I recommend doing the full moon tour, when the moon light reflects on the white stones. Amazing.

It was a very special feeling to see the rock formations in grey/white. We drove in a car Caravan with only one guide. The guides English was poore.

The place is beautiful. The colored sands, mountains and rocks in a desertic scenery! You get to see some dinossaurs bones and footprints. The small museum has good information about the place. The only problem is that you have to go on a convoy, and the whole trip takes more than 3 hours. Too long. I think they should allow you to go by yourself. But it is beautiful. If you drove over a 100km to see the park, enjoy!

We went two times. To times 130 km one way. Both times closed because the night rain.Ok the parc is closed, why not open the museum? Why not informing people on their website. So before you go, ask you hotel service desk to check if it is open.

The scenery of the Valle de la Luna is really beautiful in the middle of a desert. It really seems to be on another planet!Unfortunately to drive to the beautiful place you have to book a tour with a guide which spoke only spanish and in my opinion exagerated in telling information about this place as he also talked about the creation of the earth with all following steps and so on. I like it to have information but this technical things were only told in spanish and unfortunatelty my spanish is not good enough for it so it became quite boring with all the stops we had to do. The whole tour took more than 4 hours! But anyway I recommend this tour but be aware that it can be boring at the end and plan enough time for it.

I am a backpacker, 37yrs old, 40+ countries visited, travelling with partner. We took a tour wit Hostel Valle de la Luna / IschigualastoORGANISING THE TOUR: 1/ in San Juan you can buy package with transport to the park and way back but its relatively pricy 2/ you can travel to San Agustín de Valle Fertil and book the transport/ tour from agencies of hostel Ischigualasto. If you book the tour with the hostel you might be offer cheap accommodation there. COST of the tour from San Agustin: Normally the cost is 250peso pp. But expect to pay 800 or 1.000 for a drive if you are on your own (or per couple) in a low season without any tourists. We paid 250p pp (with 4 people in total) for transport (200km) and 110pp for the park entry with just 3 first stops and excluding last 2 most famous view points (due to flooded road), that also included entry for the museum (normally the price is 160 peso pp with overall 5 stops at the park).TRANSPORT: We took a bus from San Juan to San Agustín for 96 peso pp. It leaves only 3 times a day at 7.30am, 2 pm, 7.15pm. In San Agustin we took the transport to the park from Hostel Ischigualasto for 250 pesos pp as we were lucky to have 2 tourists more. Otherwise if you are in low season without any other tourists it's possible for 800peso for a drive (ie 400 pp for a couple) with private drivers waiting in front of tourists office in San Agustin. In tourists agencies they charge 1.000 peso for transport from San Agustin for a couple or 4 people and they split price proportionally.Note: The transport is to park entrance and also includes drive of 40 km loop around the park. You have to have to drive with a guide in the car or if there is no space the guide drives in front of you. In the park you are allowed to get off the car only at view points. At the third view point you are allowed to walk with a guide 400 m. The rest of the time is in the car.WEATHER TIPS: Please make sure the park road is open before you take a tour. We arrived to the park and it appeared the half of he road is flooded and we cannot see 2 most remarkable places. We visited 3 first view points from about 4.30pm to 7pm (in November) and the view with the sun down was beautiful. It was pleasantly warm NOT hot. Other tour operators offer the tours in the morning as they are saying it's not so hot comparing to the afternoon but it's not necessary true and I don't think it's a good idea. Also our guide confirmed the late afternoon/ sunset is the best time.OVERALL IMPRESSION: Beautiful landscape, it's similar type of scenery to valle de la luna in Chile but it's different so I would highly recommend to visit this park but only when the weather is nice. I liked it very much despite not seeing last 2 viewpoints. The guide spoke English. The only downside was that we could not see the whole park, our guide was rushing us all the time which was annoying and museums was closed when we finished the tour and nobody cared about it.

The trip to this park was very insightful! Our guide was very kind and she gave us a lot of interesting facts. The sights are amazing! This park is quite remote, but the trip to this park is amazing as well!

This place is amazing! You get to see really great views over the desert. It's best to go there by car (I don't really know if there is any other way). In the park there is a guided tour where everyone drives with there car and the guide shows you the best places and explains about the landscape and how it came to be this way. Together with Talampaya Park it's a really nice day trip and definetly worth the drive. On the way you get to see nice landscapes and even some cool animals.

Please allow yourself to see the greatness of Mother Nature. This is a "MUST SEE" spot in Argentina. Don`t miss it!!!

This park, and a partner Talampaya Park (90 km away) are both about 4-5 hours from everywhere (San Juan, Cordoba, Mendoza). Some tour companies squeeze both into 1 day, and if that is all the time you have, then so be it. Both parks are accessible only when accompanied by a Ranger. In Ischigualasto you drive your own vehicle in convoy following the Ranger, while in Talampaya you can go on an escorted walk or bus tour. Ischigualasto has amazing fossils, rock formations and rock colours. It is also called the Valle de la Luna (valley of the moon). Unfortunately we had a very overcast day and lost a lot of the colour vibrancy. But, the 5 hr drive from San Juan was worth it, although it is difficult if you don't have Spanish for the Ranger's explanations.

Great place to go. Excelent scenary witha huge variety of feelings. The guide was cool and the place really amazes you with all the landscape and story behind it.

The history is amazing and the landscapes were breathtaking. You are in and out of your car as you take the tour. The hikes you take (15 min max.) are light and easy. Still - where good boots or shoes. Service in the cafe was awful by any standard. Buy a sandwich to go (excellent bread) and save yourself the frustration.

This park was a fun activity to do, though a bit hard if you don't have a car. We stayed in St Augustin and had to hire a car and driver for the tour. When we arrived we put our name down for the next tour. The tours happen hourly. We then visited the museum and little shops to kill time. If needed there is also a cafeteria with food and drinks. The tour of the park is done caravan style, everyone drives around, and at each stop gets out to hear the explanation. If you don't speak Spanish it will be over your head. Our elementary Spanish didn't lend itself to understanding geological terms so we were a bit bored during the long explanations. The scenery is beautiful though, so more of our fault for not speaking the language. I wish we had looked up all the information about the site online before going. I also expected that since non-Argentians pay 4x more that they'd have something in English, but this was not the case. Again, our fault, not theirs, but I feel that others should know to be prepared! We took some amazing pictures and are glad that we went, we would just recommend being a bit more prepared to others. Also, there is no food or water in the park, so make sure you have enough to sustain yourself for the 4 hour tour. We went for the sunset tour and the views were remarkable, so I'd recommend trying for the last entry at 5p as well if possible for your schedule.
