A collection of crumbling ruins, Joadja was brought to life by the quality of the guide. Unlike your usual tourist trap, where the staff can barely regurgitate a few phrases from a guide book, he'd clearly researched the history of the place and could answer any question. By the end of 90 minute tour, I bought the idea that Joadja was a historically significant site that should be far better known. Highly recommended.

We absolutely found this tour by chance, and we were so glad we did. It was so interesting to learn the history of the town and region and by such a lovely couple who run the tours. The wildlife and flora was lovely to see and the kids really enjoyed it too. Its a must do for things to see and do in the highlands. So happy we went and would highly recommend this to anyone looking to learn about the history of the town and also to see some amazing stuff. The beautiful scenery on the way is also amazing. Highly recommend this !

Joadja heritage town is not that easy to find and is a fair drive (by part dirt road from Berrima), however, it is well worth your time if you are looking to explore something out of the ordinary. The tours are run by the owner of the property, who is very friendly, knowledgeable and obviously very passionate about the property, its history and conservation work. The tour takes about 2 hours involving a drive around the ghost town (Carrington Row and the remains of the mining operation are definitely the highlights!) followed by a tour of the whisky distillery which, by now, is almost operational. Your tour guide will tell you lots of interesting historic facts about the town, you will enjoy great scenery and, for those interested in whisky, you will love the distillery tour! All of that for a very reasonable price of $15 per person. The tour will also be good for kids, lots to see and the information given by the tour guide can easily be digested by school aged kids.I hope that the owners of the property will get more funding from the State government to continue their great work restoring this little known heritage ghost town so that more people become aware of this place and come to enjoy a piece of classic Australian mining history here.
