Maybe i'm a bit bias in this review as i'm an accountant and found it amazed that they have the same role back then :) with pretty much the same job description. This site have more information in english, and apparently, this was one of the first (if it was not the first) of modern bank, and was very huge before with management model as we know now. I was really impressed with this fact and spent longer in this site compare to other. As i was there, i analogy all the function and part of the building with modern bank now, and it's pretty much the same, worth to visit this one (esp if you in finance industry).

This one is an old bank and preserved showing the rooms as they once functioned. Its fairly small but well worth a visit. Curiously tourists put money in huge Vats of water, it promptly sinks. If the bankers did that it may explain why they went bust. It seems possible though as there was no vault!

Technically this is the first and founding bank of China's current financial system. It's interesting that this rural walled town got it all started and had extensive branches. PingYao was Asia counterpart to today's London Financial Center 150 years ago.

This is the site of the first draft bank in China. You'll see the reconstructions of some of the "offices" and layout of how the bank operated. It's a fascinating glimpse into what banking used to be like 150 years ago. It's included in the Pingyao Ancient City pass for 120RMB, which is valid for two days, be aware that your ticket will give you entrance to each attraction just once.Several of the other attractions close by this are very similar in layout - so you do start to feel as though you're seeing the same thing over and over again, but we visited this one because of it's history. Out of the attractions we visited, this was reasonably well translated and explanatory, but also left us with the feeling off wanting more information about the history and change in Chinese banking. You'll get some lovely photo's through the series of courtyards, so long as you can wait out the stream of Chinese tourists.
